I have been having a lot of trouble lately keeping zoanthids. They are my girlfriends favorite corals and we have lost some recently, idk whats wrong so I thought I would pick you guys minds for ideas. The ones I have lost go from looking fine, to not opening one day, and then slowly after that polyps just seem to disappear, almost like they are melting away.... I had some I got from Ron recently do this, however just when I thought they were done for they started growing back.
Last test was as follows
Salinity: 1.026
Nitrate: 0
Nitrite: 0
Ammonia: 0
Ca: 450
dKH: 12.0
Mg 1600
Ph 8.2-8.0 daily swing (Calibrated 2 weeks ago)
(I know some will say the dKH is high, but I can't get it any lower, every batch of IO salt I have been making is at 11.5-12.0 dKH right off that bat.... Im going to be changing salts when Im out of IO to RC because the mag & CA is so low in the IO salt that I have been getting.)
All my top off is through a geo kalk reactor. Parameters have been stable since I added it. RO/DI water 0TDS check with two meters
Did a water change almost a month ago. I am due to do another one soon. I haven't noticed a major problem in my tank, just a specific area (zoanthids) so I have not really been panicking about it.
Lighting is 2x250 phoenix 14K, 2x54w T5 blue +, 54w Aquablue Special, 54w Figi Purple.
I don't think this is a case of lighting acclimation as one of these corals was something that I had since I started and just recently came into this problem. All my zoanthids are partially shaded, or in low areas of the tank.
I don't think its nudibrachs, I have had them before in my 24G nano so I know what to look for there and I don't see them or any signs of them.
Don't think its zoa pox either.
I do run carbon and GFO and I was wondering if maybe I put in to much GFO (been running it for 6 months since the tank was started though)....Maybe between the new skimmer and a fresh batch of GFO I stripped the system of nutrients they were using??
Could to much flow be causing it? I have a MP40 and MP10 in my 75G tank, MP40 on short pulse @65%, MP10 100% lagoon. None of them are in "direct" flow however..
All my SPS, and LPS are doing fine, anemone has never looked better either.
So theres my thoughts, any other input?
Thanks,
Josh
