zoanthids coloring up progression

organism

code monkey
I recently had a dinos outbreak in my tank that nuked most of my stuff for about 6 months, nearly all of my corals browned out or died, so I took pics of a zoanthids frag that had browned out to see how it would color up again. It seems like nowadays a lot of people think that zoanthids have to be neon or they're not worth anything, but there's soooo much really nice stuff out there browned out at your LFS waiting to color up, just use your imagination :)

month and a half or so...

Dunno, the dinos came in on some frag I picked up at a reef show and just went everywhere. If I did water changes they'd go crazy, so I had to sit there and watch the tank slide for about 6 months until they were completely gone. Any snail that ate them immediately died, lost all my pods, most of my fish, not much fun...

sorry to hear about your Dino issues. Battled them a couple times. Fn sux, had to do 7 days of darkness teqnique helps out a lot with no water changes. and barely feeding any fish. Lost lots of coral, inverts and expensive fish.

Interesting about the snails. That happened here before also with dinos, but only for a month.
Sorry about the fishes...
Hope you've got the thing running smooth again.

Nice coloring up. I have some very similar if not the same ones. I will be going through a coloring up phase myself becasue the fist size rock they are on attracts an ugly slime algae so after removing most of it they are in the sump.

How did you beat the dinos? I have a friend who seems to always be battling them and I''m sure he would like to know alternative treatments. Also, I was under the pressure that you worked in the business and kind of figured that major facilities would have treatments for these that maybe the average guy wouldn't know about.

And the top of the same frag today, sometimes browned out polyps can be pretty amazing so don't overlook your LFS's corals even if they don't look awesome right off the bat :)

Mine are not those. Just shows what zoas can do when not colored up and how an ID can be way way off depending on the conditions a zoa came from and the lighting they are exposed to. Thanks for the update.

Nice blue!!
Very hard to find blue zoas here and when we find they are almost impossible to keep, no matter how good the system and other zoas are doing!
