Zoanthids

These Zoanthids had been opening up but the last three days nothing but I notice an aptasia on the side. Could that be why they are not opening up? I got a peppermint shrimp yesterday, should I wait on it to kill it or should I try and remove it... Thanks

aiptasia does cause zoas to close. peppermint shrimp are hit or miss depending on who you are talking to. how long you should wait for your peppermint shrimp is up to you, but i were you, i would treat the aiptasia with aiptasia x or an equivalent product. good luck

+1

Aiptasia definitely causes zoas not to open. Also, I have 6 peppermint shrimp in my 95 gallon and they haven't really put a dent in my larger aiptasia. I used Red Sea Aiptasia X. It seems to do the job and I just killed some of them around my zoas and they are all opening up on growing again. Aiptasia will definitely reduce the growth rate of your zoas. Unfortunately, once you have them they're really hard to get rid of.
