Zoas blistered after dip...

Sorry didn't take a pic last night. I have been just FW dipping some new zoas in a QT for nudies with no problems. I added lugols to the dip last night for the first time. 1 gallon of FW with PH and temp adjusted with 6-7 drops lugols. While inspecting the zoas for egg sacks ( which I keep finding ) I noticed watery filled blisters, just like one on a human may look on the stalkes of some zoas. They would pop with a little touching from my tweezers and release the clear fluid. Weird. Just wanted to know if this was normal? I had never noticed it before.

And how ofter should I dip to erradicate the baby nudies from egg sacks I may miss? Every 1,2,3 days? And for how many weeks? Anyone know the incubation period of the egg sacks? I really do not want to get them in the zoa display!

Oh and while I am at it. I have some sponge growing in a few fraggs. How is the best way to kill it off without hurting the zoas? It seems to be choking the colony out on one big rock. Kinda purple color. I pick it off but it grows right back!

This is an interesting subject. I have had a few bouts with the white bumps/blisters and have wondered if it was related to FW dipping.

As for the egg swirls, I have some going on 10 days that haven't hatched yet.

They don't have the white bump/blister disease thing, just some polyp stalks developed a big blister after/during the dip. Kinda like a bad sunburn might look.
Wow, 10 days. Great work you are doing on the nudie and getting some real data on them! I also wonder about things like temp making them hatch faster or slower.

I've noticed those blisters, too, Angela. I just pop them with the toothpick I use to scrape out nudis and eggs. I haven't noticed anything bad happen after popping them, yet... Thye look just like a sun burn blister (mounded thin layer of skin with fluid inside).

I've never had blisters before. But the purple sponge thingy I've had two varieties and I just left them alone. One is a shiny purple black with no apparent openings. Doesn't seem to harm anything and the Zoo's are healthy and spreading. And the other was a vibrant violet color that networked throughout the Zoo colony with many viney growths. Never seemed to harm anything either. The shiny purple black weirdness could get to be a problem if it were to grow out of control perhaps. The Zoo's aren't harmed by it's presence but do not grow on the sponge. You can peel the sponge if you feel strongly about it. It's possible you would get some Zoo's to come up with it because of their intertwined proximity. Pry up enough to grab hold of and yank it completely off. A good set of hobby tweezers would be useful.
