Zoas dying...is this a nudi?

Hi All,

I have a new medium rock covered with zoas...I'll link to the pic BEFORE they started dying. I dipped them in Revive before putting in the tank. They have been in my tank for 2 weeks and have died off to about 30-40% of what started! I thought it was lighting or flow, but now I don't know. I suspect my emerald crab, my snails, my hermits, etc. etc! My params are 90gal tank, Nitrates 0, Phosphates 0, Ph 8.3, Ca 450, Alk 7.5, Mg 1200, temps 78-81, vortech mp40, 2x250W MH.....should be all good for zoas. My other corals seem fine.

So I took some forum advice and did a freshwater dip. The zoas smell fine, not too bad. In the bucket I got ONE thing that looks suspicious. Is it a nudi? I think it might be part of a dead zoa...could the crab have torn it off?

Any help, advice or guesses would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the ID.

So I only had the one come off in the freshwater dip. I only have this one rock of Zoas. Should I do the freshwater dip every few days or what to guarantee that there aren't more lurking around. I'm guessing that they can't survive away from the zoas (like the live rock, etc.), right?

Get some revive or coral rx, Soak the zoas per instructions. But also have a turkey baster and "blast" the rock with the solution. Also inspect the rock carefully for any sundial snails and eggs of anything and pull them off.

I dipped the rock in revive and scrubbed around with a soft toothbrush, being careful of the polyps. I didn't see anything else come off, nor any eggs of any kind. Looking at the rock, I think maybe only 20% of all the original polyps are left. Could ONE nudibranch do that in a couple weeks?

Also, should I go ahead and treat my tank with flatworm exit? I haven't seen any flatworms, but that might be the best time to hit it....before there are a large number of them or nudibranchs.

What do you guys think?

Thanks,
Gary

I bought a colony of eagle eye's about a month ago... They were doing great for about a week then they started to close up.. Couldn't figure out what was irritating them until i decided to stay up and watch the tank... Those same 'nudis' started to crawl all over the colony. I pulled them off with some tongs. The next day i pulled the colony and dipped them in a 2 gallon container with a power head and revive. 7 of these lil pests came off in the dip. So far they seem less irritated and started to open up. Now im concerned about eggs...

Flatworm exit is hands down the best dip for nudis out there. Revive and coral RX will stun them but not kill them. FWE kills them. Now you do have to do repeated dips as nothing will kill the eggs. Look for long thin white strands as those are the eggs. Good luck.
