zoas with pinched stem

I have a bud that has one small clump of zoas that are not doing well. They look great and are opening normally- but right at the base they are pinching and getting skinny- kind of a bobblehead situation. I haven`t seen this one before- and the other thousand or so zoas are all doing well. This clump was of about 40 a couple weeks ago- and down 25% as of today. I have seen just about everything that can happen to a zoa- but this is new!

im having this problem also. i think some of my hermit crabs were picking at my zoas at nite. i even caught one doing it once.

I think its still up in the air as to why this happens. I have had it go down from time to time and its usually not good. I have never lost 100% of any single morph from it but i belive others have.

This has happened to me in the past. It looks like something is just sucking the juice out of them. Its wierd because it will effect one entire colony while the rest of your colonies seem perfectly healthy. It's sad to say that 90% of the time I wound up loosing the entire colony. I was told back then that it might be due to high calcium levels in the tank. I reduced the calcium levels and haven't had a re-occurrence since but it may just be a coincidence. Who knows, it may be a new pest we havent discovered yet.
