Or better yet...adaptation. What tank conditions would cause zoos to have/develop elongated tentacles? I have a couple of varieties that have developed long, thin tentacles and others that remain short. I have a mixed colony that has both short and long tentacles on it. They are different colors but live together. My Bam Bam’s look like Carrot Top. All are fully opened and growing babies so it must not be to bad in there.
 
high flow causes them to do that. all of my zoos that are getting a higher flow have VERY long skirts compared to the ones sitting in a lower flow area. Thats my personal experience.

Agreed... There are some though that always have short skirts.

Yep, high flow. Check out how long the skirts on my rainbow palys have gotten

On the other hand the zoanthids with the longest skirts in my tank are in my lowest flow area. Some of them will just have longer skirts than others...
