Zoo tank question

Hi folks. Yes, i know, it's been quite a while. Life is hectic between my expanded family, work, etc. Personally, i have decided to take down my home tank since I have been neglecting it badly being that it is situated in the basement and often out of sight. I will still be maintaining my 65 gallon office tank and of course I continue to periodically monitor and work on the zoo tank. Today, i donated a big bunch of corals to the zoo. I will soon have lots of live rock available. This will be great for those who enjoy aptasia:).

I have a perplexing issue with the zoo's ro/di system. The system stopped producing water. I was able to isolate the problem to the ro membrane. I replaced the membrane but alas still no water. I then replaced the membrane housing thinking there was an internal clog but still no go. Water is getting ejected out of the black tubing but not coming out of the other tube. What gives? Any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated.

I will also have some free corals. Will post those later.

Jerry sorry to hear this!! Wow no tank in the Bronx house, never thought that day would come. Ok so the problem at the zoo, is it producing waste water but no pure water? If this is the case is there a bypass for cleaning the membrane? If there is it maybe on bypass mode and you would only be getting waste water out of the waste line.

Just started myself recently, so I'll be interested in any corals you have for free :-D I'm learning how expensive this can be :-)

Hey Jerry... I encountered the same problem with my RO unit a couple months ago... found that it was the flow restrictor... I replaced it and it worked. I have an extra 700 one if you would like to try it. Just PM or call me.

Thanks for the input guys. I actually did replace the flow restrictor. No water leaves the output port on the membrane housing. Thanks for the offer on the restricor TB!

Heya Dave: Yeah, it will feel weird for a while not having a tank in the house. At one point I had three. For the time being , I won't miss the time and expense but I'll still have the office and zoo tanks to look after. Regarding the membrane, I don't see any bypass.

Does the position of the membrane inside the housing matter? I notice that on the white nozzle end of the membrane, there are two small holes on that nozzle. Do those have any functional significance. I've replaced a number of membranes in the past with no issues so I am STUMPED!

No problem Jerry. The position of the wholes doesn't matter (at least on mine it doesn't.) I'm wondering if possibly the hoses are on the correct ports?

No, not yet...I'll try to head over to the zoo tomorrow (Friday) and look at then system with "fresh eyes". I'll bring a copy of the diagram that Dave was kind enough to provide to make sure I connected the tubing properly.

We should plan another get together there someday. I missed the last one and would love to see its progress.
