zoo tank updates

OK Nate cool. What time so I can give the zoo a heads up. I'll also bring the bulkhead. I can be available any time after 5pm.

I spoke to John today, aka Flar92, aka zanclus. While he is no longer on RC (due to a series of unfortunate events:)) he frequently checks the forum. He informs me that the live rock is about ready and he will obtain a test kit to check the ph. If it is ready, I will pick up on Sunday.

Paul: Any chance you could make it on Wednesday as well so we can start suspending the lighting?

Hood Update:
Woodworking: Complete
Electrical: 50% done and tested using 4 URI blubs
1 - Aquasun (10K)
1 - Actinic White (12K)
1 - Aqua Blue (14K)
1 - Super Actinic (420nm)

With just half of the bulbs in and NO SLR's installed this hood is bright. Not sure I can complete the electrical/pulley system by Wed. Hope to complete by the weekend.

Paul

OK great Paul. I heard from the zoo today and the 20 amp lines are wired in. We just have to let them know where we want the outlet boxes placed. Do these need to be GFI outlets?

At one time they were going to GFI the whole circuit by using GFI breakers. If not then the 1st outline in the line should be GFI to protect it and the others downstream.

I can make it Wed if you need me. Besides the plumbing are we doing anything else on Wednesday.

I've finished the electrical on the hood. I will bring it to the zoo on Wed at 6pm. Then we can discuss mounting procedures. It is setup with connectors that allow the ballast to run any 2 of the 4 light strips (2 blubs per strip). This way we can try a 1/3 2/4 or 1/2 3/4 or 1/4 2/3 etc. I haven't done a full power setup as 1 on the bulbs arrived busted.

Great news guys we have the tank almost all the way plumbed, and we have the tank a 1/4 of the way filled and are in constant water making....one more hour of plumbing and we are ready to rock and roll....it will be great, when it is up and going (mid next week) can we get everyone to bring in at the very least a cup of sand and a rock, preferable with coraline algae on it, to the zoo so we can seed the tank...thanks guys

I am still reeling from PVC cement fumes! hopefully I spared a few neurons. Nate and Vince really rocked on the plumbing. We added the sand and some water and will continue to add water as the ro/di puts out (water). early next week we'll finish the plumbing. Paul did a beautiful job on the lighting set-up and he will pick up hardware to wall mount the ballasts and suspend the system. By next weekend the system will be fully operational and ready for live rock and sand from folks tanks to seed the subtrate. i will pick up the diy rock from Zanclus's this Sunday. I will stop by the zoo from time to time to continue making water and adding to the sump and tank. I will also place an order for remaining dry goods from Premium Aquatics and an invert order from Dr. Fosters Smith.

I went to the zoo this AM. I added ro/di water to the sump and the bulkhead leading to the external pump showed no leakage. The tank is now about 1/3 full also with no leaks. I will return on Satjurday to continue mixing salt and filling the tank. The sump and tank should be filled with saltwater by th end of the weekend. I will contact Zanclus and see about running up to groton to pick up the diy rock. I will let it sun dry for a couple of days before adding to the tank.

Nate please let me know when we can meet to finish the plumbing.

DaveVG - When can you make it up to finish framing the front of the tank e.g. front sill and sides?

Paul - Same question re. hanging the lighting.

I am available most of the weekend to work on tank.

Lighting Mount - I know we talked about a pulley system but do we really need on. With the hood so light I think we can just use 4 drop down lines to each corner and then have hooks to raise it up to the ceiling. Let me know your opion. The pulleys provides a COOLNESS factor but I'm not sure its worth the investment.

Sounds fine to me paul. Lets see how that works out. Simple and cheap. BTW, I ordered a replacement for the broken lamp 14k 75.25.

Nate is available to meet at the zoo at 7pm Monday night. At that time we will build the standpipes and situate the RDSB and media buckets. We changed the design so that the RDSB may be outside of the sump allowing more room in the sump. It will take a couple of days before the pvc cement cures so we can start the system on Wednesday or Thursday night. Paul, any chance you can come in Monday so we can do the lighting?
