zoo tank updates

I purchased a non-digital timer to replace the malfunctioning Icecap digital timer. However, when I got to the zoo I realized that the lights are hardwired into the icecap timers. So I either need to replace the timer or wire plugs onto the wire harness. Any thoughts? Paul, being that you are the lighting mistro, we will need your input on this. By the way the problem is that the Icecap timer just won't turn off. I don't know how long this has been going on. It was discovered yesterday. This may have been a huge contributor to our cyano problem. The zoo is directed to manually plug in the timer in the am and unplug it in the pm. After one day, the cyano already appears to be retreating.
I will write to Icecap and see if they can replace the timer.

Wire a plug temporarily till you get a replacement Jerry. If paul can’t get to it I could stop by and take care of it. Would only take a minute.

Thanks bunches Dave. I just wrote to IceCap. Lets see what they say. If they don't replace the timer, I may take you up I may take you up on your offer. But first i want to get Paul's input since he wired up the system For now, the zoo will just plug and unplug the system.

I've been continuing to monitor the 180's pH and I have watching slowly edge back up such that it currently is up to 8.46. This is the high end of the safe range. If y'all recall, I had to previously add vinegar to bring down pH and it was my theory that the diy rock was contributing to high pH and thus precipitation of alk and Ca. Right now, Ca and alk appear OK but if this continues I will contemplate replacing out the rest of the DIY rock. If need be I will add some seltzer water to bring down pH (by adding CO2) since I don't want to add vinegar since that may contribute to cyano.

Jerry, Since the timer is stuck on just plug it into your new analog timer and you will be all set. There is no hurry to rewire anything just plug the cord from the old broken timer into the new timer.

Icecap came through yet again annd are sending us a new digital timer. Icecap is the absolute bomb!!!

I also received Bord's Chemi-clean to remove Cyano but it does not list ingredients. It says what it isn't but not what it is so I'm a bit nervous about it. I will give the Cyano a little more time now that know what has been going on with the lighting and hopefully it will retreat on its own.

I was at the zoo this evening and was pleased to see that after just two nights with the lights being turned off that the cyano is in serious retreat.

As stated, icecap is sending a new digital timer. They did request photos of the aquarium display and the timers/lighting set-up so that they can use it on their web site. So I was hoping that Vince or someone with a good digital camera and photography skills could volunteer for this.

i could probibly do it but it needs to be at night because the reflection threw the otter and pengin glass makes the picture come out bad. so im not sure when it would be good to take a pic some time after 8ish. if you set somthing up for the place to be open tomorrow night i should be able to get up there. As for the timer, you are correct. Just plug the icecap one (broken in the on position) into the mechanical one. Then set the mechanical one and plug it into the wall outlet.

OK, we are in business! I just received the new IceCap digital timer along with a little note from the company president. Is that service or what? Vince, if i got this over to you before you hit the zoo tonight would you be able to wire this in or would you like Paul to do it since he did such an awesome job first time around. Keep in mind these timers are hardwired to the lighting. Or paul, I could bring this over to you. LMK. Thanks.

Provide status by EOD (end of day). If not wired in I can stop at the zoo on Wed and do the required hookup for the timer. Also please do not discard the old timer. I want to take a look at it.

Vince wired up the new digital timer but alas, no digital LCD display. Bummer! So had to hook the original back in. Then the other one got stuck on "auto". Double bummer. The zoo will have to manually plg and unplug the timers. I asked Paul to check out the situation and wire in analogue timers. This is one reason I like to keep my personal systems low tech. Technology is great but seldom trustworthy in the long run.
