zoos are not opening!

I'am just starting a reef tank. I have 3 mushrooms ,and 1 rock with 15 polyps of zoo's. the corals have been in my tank for about a month. When I got the zoo's, they were open, and now they are closed. I have a damsel, and a bi- color angelfish.

The lighting i have is a compacted florecent. The nitrate is low, pH is normal ,and Ammonia is low in my tank. Everyone says to get rid of the angelfish, but the angel dosen't bother the corals.

Check around the zoos and around the rock they are on. best when the lights are off. look for a small snail with a zebra like design. found they like to munch on zoo's

How long has this tank been up and running?

Chris, the angelfish are notorious for nipping on corals, I believe that most often they nip on the corals during the night... If you can goto homedepot and get the flashlight with the red lens, something about fish cant see red light... Then grab a 12 pack and sit back and watch...

Next on the list would be make sure that your ammonia is at 0 if you have even a trace of it then you are still cycling and need not put anything else in the tank... Also try and use an advanced test kit like Elos to determine ammonia...

Last, You have a compact light on your tank, how many watts is the fixture and how deep is your tank... Try placing the zoas as high up in the tank as possible...

I'm running into the same problem. Mine open up only about halfway most of the time. All my parameters are good, and I've got a 5.5 gallon tank with 4 inch sand bed. The lighting I have is a 27W fluorescent, and there's low flow hitting them. I've always heard they like low light/low flow, maybe I'll move them up like InADream mentioned... Good luck reefchris!
