Zoos melted away

I purchased several different zoos over the last couple months.

I have had great results for the zoos that I placed on small rocks on the sandbed, and the ones I placed on a frag rack.

However, I had a couple that I placed on the large rocks and they lasted a while.

But, they dwindled VERY fast. For example I had a rock of about 30 horizens and one with about 15 motozumas.

They each (at seperate times) completly disappeared (melted) with in 2 to 3 days.

Completeely gone like they were never there.

Anyone now why this could be?

Thanx

No, there was about 4 in total (varying amounts of polyps) and these were scattered at differetn heights throughout the tank.

So the question is, when you first got these polyps that melted, where they acclimated properly to the light 1st. Meaning all were started in the bottom, left there for some time till they got used to the new lighting then slowly moved up several inches at time gradually? or you immediately placed some 1/2 up the tank, some 3/4th right away for example.

No I didn't start them at the bottom. It's just wierd that some were higher then the ones that dissapeared and there wasn't even any bleaching.

light shocked and probably added stress... just a guess. what are the flow parameters up higher in your tank? got pics?

Here is a picture of the tank, the flow up top should be good, got the return (700gph) and two power heads that blow against the front glass pointed slightly down to force flow down and around. Thankx

looking at your 1st post.... and seeing all...

You have a polyp muncher in your tank... ( Blue Tang ) that's what my money is on. Please search the zoanthid threads there threads in which Blue tangs and other types were munching on their owners priced polyps. I've even posted a video of a blue tang poping them up like popcorn.

I don't trust angels either even pgmys like your flame there. just my opinion.

These are just from what I've seen, heard and read from other peoples experiences. Study and research that info before you decide what to do.

thats what i suspected after seeing the pic as well, there are videos of blue tangs eating zoos on youtube. mine even went after my welso and cynarina, big appetites.

Yea, I did read that before.

It's just wierd that the other polyps have been in there for several months now. Do they only like certain kinds?

I've got that group of what was 10, now about 25-30 purple deaths.

The spackeled reds were about 8 and now are double that. Same with the nuc greens.

Also, when the three groups melted or whatever it was obvious that something was going on with them during the couple days it would take for them to dissappear.

He was probably sampling them taking little bites here and there small enough that you didn't notice but enough that the colonies did and started to show stress. The minute he figured it was a new food source besides the algae on the rocks then it was all out after that. Tangs do spend all day grazing.

Like I tell all possible tang victims, place a camera infront of the tank and stay out of sight. You might catch the offender red handed.
