zoos on crocea getting ridiculous

Months ago I hadn't noticed a bit of zoos that had started growing on the back side of my clam shell. I did some reading here and in books, and the consensus seemed to be that the zoos won't hurt the clam. Well, now the zoos have covered one entire side of the shell, and have almost reached the top near the mantle. In addition, they have started spreading on the rock at the front of the clam. I am starting to get worried that they will attach at the joint of the shell, much less start affecting the clam when they hit the top of the shell. ANyone have a clam covered in zoos? What should I do?

hahaha I have already been the guinea pig, the zoos cover half the clam now! I am afraid to scapre the zoos off because of their toxin, 5 don't know if it would affect the clam or not. (i would take the clam out and do this in a bowl of course.

i think it would be worse if you did it in a bowl(less water to dilute the toxins)i would get a bowl of tank water and then just take the clam out and scrape them off in the are then give the clam a quick rinse in the bowl then back into the tank.clams are ok out of the water for a little while.

I would scrape them off at the next water change. That's when I do all my pruning and cleaning, in the 5 gallon bucket of "waste" water.

I have been putting this off but i think I need to get the zoos away from the opening of the shell. How can I scrape the zoos off without messing up the shell?

i think that if you just take a tooth pick and get the edge up you should be able the peel them off.

lol you know how much that would sell on ebay? ULTRA RARE ZOO GROWING CLAM!

Just a fyi though. Very FEW zoos are going to release any toxins and in a tank, it won't be that big of a deal. I have some that won't get off a rock I razor blade constantly to rip em up.

i believe its palys that are super toxic. and zoas are too but i dont think nearly as much as the palys. id use a razor and a tootbrush out of the water. cut off as much as you can and then scrub it real good with the tooth brush. then give it a quick rinse in some water that will be disposed of and return to the tank. youll probably have to repeat again because a zoa or two might make it through the ordeal.
