Zoos??? with 3-4 inch stalks??

Does anyone have any zoos with extremely long stalks? I will post pics tonight of mine. They are beautiful Pinks with Silver skirts.

If anyone else has some, please post pics!!

I have 3 different types that the stalks are over 2" but unfortunately my camera stinks and can't post a good pic.

ime the long stalks are signs of not enough lighting.

My Dragon Eyes that have grown onto the underside of the rock have ~2 inch stalks. I agree with twon that they're just not getting enough light since the only zoas that are doing this in my tank are the ones under rocks. Are you sure they're zoanthids and not palys or protopalys. We have some green palys with 3 inch long stalks.

If you look closely at the bottom right corner you can see one stalk which is quite long on my zoas. If you can't really see it pm me with your email and I can send you a bigger pic.

Here are some zoas when we first got them. The already set up tank we bought only had regular fluorescents and these guys are reaching for light.

When I bought them, I was told that they were going to get very tall. Well they did and they are multiplying like crazy so I think they are happy.

I have 220 watts on a 55 gallon. They are near the center of the tank.

Here's our palys. There isn't a good pic of their stalks though. Palys have much larger heads than zoanthids.

definitely need more light, regardless of the species of the zoanthid.

I just moved a couple of zoas from the back of my tank. They were shaded and had very long stalks, I'm talking well over 2 inches probably in that 3 inch range. When I placed them in the front part of the tank they shrunk down and opened wide. Just a thought to go along with the rest of the low light comments.

Like I said, I was told by the guy that frags them that his are the same height and he has metal halide lights. This is why I purchased them because he said they were rare to see them get so tall.

:lol: wow, hard to tell what they are, but really no need to identify them as palys or zoas. they DEFINITELY need ALOT more light.

well, i guess its possible for a morph to have long stalks regardless of hte light, but highly unlikely. is this person you got them from on RC? do they have a pic of them in their tank?

what kind of lights do you have, and what size tank?

I am not sure if they are on RC I will check next time I see him. He did say that they would get very long about 3-4 inches when I bought them.

thats a pretty deap tank, so it wouldnt surprise me if they were on the bottom of the tank and were that long, and also depends on how much light they were getting in their previous tank.

stick them up at the top of your tank, directly under the lights and see what happens.

I will try that...though I kinda hate to move them because they have been in the same spot and doing good for like 4 months now.

well, i can tell from your other pic, that those zoas also have stalks that are "reaching" for the light, though not as much as those super long ones obviously.

220w of PC, over a 55g really isnt all that much. if it were me, i would only have zoas in that tank from half way up.

btw, how old are your PC bulbs? i'm assuming you have 1x10k, and 1x actinic?
