0.7 Gallon Pico Cube Experiment.

Hey everyone. Sorry no updates in a while, been very busy and travelling. I actually ended up giving it to a friend for getting into med school...he was a little bummed about not being able to have a tank.

I should also say that I am about to build another one. Except this one will be exactly 7 inches cubed fully equipped. I have already made the 5 inch cube ATO reservoir. I am shrinking a Phosban reactor and float switch right now. I plan on also using an Iceprobe chiller and a variety of LED types and intensities. I have some really cool plans for this one.

Thank you so much for sticking around,
Jacob

Oh, didn't even give any info. The 0.7 Pico is up and running with zoos, rics, and GSP. One blue leg hermit and lots of pods are the bioload right now. Params are stable at 1.025 Salinity, 77.3 deg, 8.27 pH. I told my friend to try to come on here and give us some pics.

Thanx again,
Jacob

ok so I am here... I haven't downloaded any pictures from it... and it has a leftover LED board over it right now so the spectrum is WAAAAY off but everything is happy... I will try and get a picture up

as promised....

Temp running between 74&76
PH 8.3-8.35

Tank looks great from 300 miles away!!! I will be starting to post updates on the new Pico in the next day or so. What I figured we would do is have James post about the 0.7 Pico and I will post about the new 1.5 Pico and its build process.

Right now I have the tank and stand built. Have not added the trim yet, installed overflow, or made the sump. That will come in no time.

OK, finally some time to update.

Here's what the 1.5 gallon Pico looks like.

The display is exactly 7x7x7 inches made of 1/8" glass. The back panel is smoked to help hide the eventual plumbing in the back and also to act as a background. The auto topoff on the right is exactly 5x5x5 inches and made of 1/4" acrylic. Both stand are made of 1/2" Birchboard with rope trim that has been carved to be continuous around the corners.

I was able to shrink a Phosban reactor down to half its size so that it will fit under the auto topoff reservoir. Eventually the return pump will be a Maxijet 900 flowing from the sump through the Phosban reactor then up to the top of the display. I have been able to shrink a float valve down to about 1/4 the size so that it will fit in a very small sump. The back glass of the display will be cut with an acrylic external Calfo style overflow and 1" drain. This will flow down to an acrylic sump equipped with Iceprobe chiller, Maxijet 900 return, mini float valve, and possibly mini needle wheel skimmer. The whole shebang will be run by an Aquacontroller Junior. The canopy will house an array or Luxeon K2 and Rebel Endor Star LEDs run by Xitanium drivers. I am debating whether I want to individually control and dim them.

Anyway, I am actually off this weekend and should be able to get more done. Stick around, more to come.

Thanx,
Jacob

Oh, and I forgot to mention, it's kinda funny how the dimensions ended up on the tank and stand. The Display stand is 14 inches, the Display tank is 7 inches, and the canopy will be 3.5 inches tall. That should make it appear very proportionate.

Jacob

LOL. Yeah the whole thing would fit in a pretty small box.

Update on lighting. I made four LED arrays today. Each array has 9 Actinic LEDs (410nm). These will be situated in the corners of the canopy. In the middle of the canopy will be a Luxeon Endor Star Triemitter (540 Lumens at 6500k) surrounded by 4 Luxeon K2 Blue Stars (16 Lumens each at 470nm). The canopy will be cooled by 2 SilenX iExtrema 40mm fans.

I also decided to run the tank with a Maxijet 1200 pump for a little more pressure.

I will get some pics up tomorrow if time allows.

Thanx again,
Jacob
