0.7 Gallon Pico Cube Experiment.

I was thinkin about using some ccfl's for moonlights on my 65 gal...what size/how many do you think would be best, as i don't want it to be too bright/dim? Thanks

ccfl's are extrememly bright. if you did use it as moonlighting I would suggest a 4 inch to start. They emit like 29000 lumens.

not to be a nudge or anything but...............WHEN ARE WE GOING TO GET TO SEE SOME CRITTERS IN THERE!!!!....jk lol. i really like your set up and you are doing a great job with it!! ;). keep up the good work!

Aggie...what did you do to wire those fans to be able to handle the power coming from an outlet? Is there a particular AC adapter or something that you spliced them into?

I would like to put fans into the pendant I'm building for my MH but don't know how to wire it so that they won't get toasted.

you need to find out what voltage the fans are and buy an adapter from an electronics store that matches the voltage. sometimes they have wiring harnesses that are plug'and'play, sometimes you just have to splice a couple of wires. Don't even THINK about running them straight to 110.

the fans are computer fans, 12 volts, but you can run them at 9volts and they'll run just about the same efficiency but quieter.

yeah, when i put my fans in for my mh's, i just had a few extra old cell phone chargers, spliced 'em together.

so do you think even a 4" ccfl would be too bright for my moonlight?

yes HOB is hang on the back. garv 2 4" would probably work well, its really up to you how much light you want buy a 4" daul and see how it works, they're cheap.

Wow, I have not been getting any notices that you guys have been posting on here or I would have been answering these questions. Sorry guys.

Yep, those fans are 12vDC and I just used an adaptor I had laying around.

The 4" UV CCFLs make awesome moonlights. They aren't as bright as you would think they are just because of the spectrum they emit is very subdued.

Found some awesome rope knobs today to go along with my theme. Right now I am waiting on some neodymium magnets to mount the doors. Regular magnets were not strong enough, and the neodymium mags will actually give me a few other options. I am going to countersink 1/8" mags into the sides of the doors and the stand...which should make for a unique door mount.

Right now my buddy in Houston has the rock, sand, and Hawiian shrimp waiting for me in his 180.

Thanx everyone,
Jacob

Lookin' forward to your return from Houston with your goodies.

Really cool build. You have some nice skills and amazing patience.

Sorry everyone, things are completely hectic right now. The only thing I have had a chance to do is find some more suitable knobs. The doors still haven't been fitted right or painted.

I think I might actually sell it so that someone else can enjoy it, b/c I don't think that I would have the time to really look after it. It is pretty much finished, just needs the doors to be finished up (painted and mounted properly). Maybe down the road I will build another.

PM me if interested and thank you for sticking with me,
Jacob

WOW!!! Getting a huge amount of responses. Thank you everyone for the kind words. I am trying to wade through all of the responses right now. I think I might start an ebay auction.

I'm trying not to turn this thread into a selling thread so it doesn't get moved, so let's try to stick to pms and I will look into an auction.

thanx again,
Jacob

Alrighty, thanx again everyone!!! Have been getting a lot of offers in pms. I am going to go ahead and formally post it for sale in the for sale forum with an asking price that seems to be about the right ballpark based on responses.
