'07 Regional Club Frag Swap in Dixon- Guidelines & Bonus Round Consideration

I'll be allowing the LE Ponape Birdsnest for this swap, but probably for the last time. As mentioned, it's been spread out quite a bit in Northern California. [/B]

Cool, I'll bring couple frags of the birdnest to the swap

Oh, also have some of the neon green cloves with the orange tips...I got them at your reef, believe the originated from atlantis.

And what about the little blue snowflake cloves not sure what they called them anymore.

I have been looking for those blue snowflake cloves! It would be nice to see some of those at the swap.

I got a small half inch frag of the little blue snowflakes a few months ago, and they seem to be a slow grower, the whole frag is about an inch total now, but the edges are sporatic polyps not a complete covering like the center is.
The center is the original frag, so I was thinking of pulling it off and glueing it to a new rock and cutting the growth in half that would put two small frags hopefully about 15 polyps or more on each half since they are tiny.

-That's what I was wondering, in regards to your snowflake polyps. If these are the mini cloves, a qualifying frag would have to have at least 20 polyps on it.

-The neon green cloves with the orange tips would need to have at least 4 polyps to qualify as a rare frag.

-The AoGs do appear to be widespread now, but if you have the original (can be traced back to Mr. Ugly), I'll count them at a 5 polyp minimum per frag.

I have the green cloves with orange tips. It is a very nice coral.

I would say that the blue snowflake polyps would be a bettter qualifier just going on market prices. Are those the ones you picked up last time you were in town?

yes, I picked those up at your reef also while in roseville early this summer.

So AOGs a 5 polyps frag will be considered as a rare? well, scratch that, I can only track them to New alameda aquarium as of now.

Orange tipped green cloves I am not sure I can cut a 4 polyps piece, I paid way too much for them.

and the mini cloves are 20 polyps as a rare?

What about a zoanthid such as eagle eyes? Or sunburst?

I would have to say that a frag should at least be market value of $60-70 to be in this section. Its only fair to get equal value for your swap.

Sorry, if you are refering to my comment about paying too much for those cloves, it wasn't meant as a "not going to put a frag in worth that much"
It was more of the fact that I only bought three polyps, and there are only 8 to 10 right now, and none of them are really easy to frag out without the risk of hurting the other, so to take 4 off there would put the remaining at risk, but I might still manage.

The blue snowflake cloves I think I can get two frags of about 20 polyps without upsetting the original colony too much. So if I can I might just make that my two rare frags, and not risk the orange tipped cloves yet, i'll let them grow out for the next swap.

Twisted- Not at all... I was actually at YR the day you got the blue cloves. I found that if you mount the other cloves towards the bottom of a rock, they grow upwards and it seems that they grow quicker. I started with 8-10 polyps and now I have over 50.

I just got permission from the wife to go. I will be out there and I can finally get my membership too. I really dont have but one frag, I can bring it but I will still have to buy in this time around :( . I see that there should be some really nice stuff, I just hope that there are LPS and Softies too, SPS would die in my tank. And a pic of my frag I can bring...

Can't wait to meet everyone and hopefully get some cool stuff too.

I just got some fragging tools today and am happy to come over and frag anybodies stuff free of charge. Mark was complaining of not having too much room, so I am heading over there tomorrow while he is at work to help a buddy out!!! The second works great, just drop it down and pull it out by the handle. The first tool takes a bit of practice to drop it onto the right one and you get your arm wet to retrieve it. I am thinking of tying a string on it.

So I have the whole bonus thing down, and I know those without any to bring may buy into the swap. What do you have to bring just to participate and get into the rotation group originaly? How big should the frags be?

What would be our call on the ATL bonsai? Both of you know what I have, any suggestions........running a blank on what would be cool to bring.

Wow, this thread died, does this mean the rare catagory is going to be fairly empty?

I would just think people know what qualifies or not.
