$1,000 fish anyone?!

They also have a Plectranthias pelicieri which costs $999.99! Although, beautiful I don't think I could ever spend more than $300 on a single fish.

Hell, do you remember your first tank research and balking at 1000 dollar lights? Yeah, how many of us have broken that threshold...

Noone thought anyone would buy oil at $100+ per barrel either.

Lots of people with a lot of disposable income, for me $200 is probably the limit for a fish, though there might be the odd rarity that would make me dig a little deeper..

My biggest fear is spending hundreds only to have the fish die within a few weeks..

The fish are nice but i have always been more into the corals. I would not pay that much for a fish, but a coral, yep!

I've heard on other forum someone's LFS is housing 2 Gem Tang for sale.

I could understand special ordering.. with some collateral... and a contract.

And how exactly do people come up with these prices?!

Number one would be supply and demand.
Cost of permits/regulation
Difficulty of catching
Method use to catch netting or cyanide.
Survival rate while transport.
Region where the fish is caught.
