He is doing well. Has eaten twice; however, he does not react to food. It will stick and he will drop it. If it falls or is placed on his mouth he will eat it. I don't think I will reintroduce the cinnamon clowns who were too hard on him until he starts grabbing food and reacting normally.

Hopefully he continues to do and better

Thanks zooman!

And thanks Minh - I might go pick up some more sand today or tomorrow - do you know of any negative side effects to adding new sand over an old sand bed or should I stir up the current sand bed first? (I would be adding live sand from the bag)

Add it on top but not a huge amount. I would just add in a mound and let it slowly spead out. Soak new sand in old tank water for a week and this should coat the sand with bacterial well and minimize cloudiness.
Put the sand in a container put it under water and intert the confined where you want the sand. Add up to 2 inches over old sand should cause no die off of the organism in the sand. May even more but I never added more than 2 inches over previous sand

learned something new today! do I need a heater and powerhead for the soaking process?

Minh, would this work for dead sand that has been sitting in a dry 5 gallon bucket for over a year (has never been cleaned)? Or is it not worth the risk and I should get new sand?

I rinse it really well. I washed several hinred pound of old sand to use it in my current 320. use a large container and fill it 1/4 full. I used a garden host with those brass sprayer. Use the hose to run the water though the bottome to to of the sand move it around until it is clear. I use a huge trash can and soak the sand in tank water for 1 week. There were no problem for me. once the tank was running, I added sand from several old systems (I used to have 7 ot 8 system). I washes all the sand with garden hose and add the sand to my DT. No problem

Another trick is to fill an empty 2 liter bottle with sand and use that to pour sand into the tank. Keep the mouth under water as the sand is poured out and a lot of the cloudy water will stay in the bottle.
