1000 Gallon Build- Here we go- Lots of Pictures

Gold flake- nice but it's no blue face. I love star polyps as well. Maybe I just do a anemone and clown tank with start polyps. And put in a clown trigger:jester:

raw shrimp is in place. Am monitoring levels. as levels stabilize - we will start adding fish. Am having an internal debate as to what I want to add.

I really want a french and blue face angel but that means limited corals.

guess you all will have to just wait and see....

I'll toss out a suggestion here: Contemplate the less aggressive fish you'll want to add and get them in first. I passed on what I would have called my perfect purple tang so that I could get my less aggressive fish (anthias, CBB, etc) settled in and it has worked really well. Not that getting that prized fish first isn't a pretty awesome feeling.

other thing to consider, when (hopefully you never do) you have your first "woops!" would you rather have a pair of hearty clowns and a few other easily replaceable fish in the tank or your prized Angel?

The tank looks good, good aquascaping. I'm not a JW fan but I'll raise a glass of Bowmore to you, as long as you share the mustard.

When I talk about the angels and stuff, Im talking down the road. Definitely going to start with some damsels and clowns first. But you are right- I want that tank established perfectly before adding any expensive fish.

Bowmore is good. Have you tried Japanese scotch? Yamazaki is ridiculous!

I think it'd be really interesting to see a French in a reef tank, and how you can adjust your corals to the fish. Either way, look forward to seeing the progress!

If you get any damsels, I would suggest yellow tail ones. They are a nice blue color with a bright yellow tail. Most other damsels get very aggressive and become problems as a result. In your tank, they will be next to impossible to remove once they go postal. Most people try to avoid damsels for this reason. The yellow tails are the only ones I keep in my tank.

I will take it a step further. The azure damsel is blue with a yellow tail and belly. They are about the most peaceful of the damsels and will even shoal on occasion.

Agreed. I believe Copps has a ton of different damsels in his huge build as well. Could check those out.

Why not go with a nice group of chromis as opposed to the damsels?

I had a few damsels in my tank and literally had to fish them out with hook and bait because they were so hard to catch. They were terrorizing every other fish in the tank. Everything was fine until one day they just snapped and went on a fin nipping rampage.

And the chromis get a little bigger which would be a good thing in a tank that size.

I have a Springer Damsel, who is a model citizen, doesn't bother ANYONE and they're known to keep flatworms in check. I had a few flatworms start to show up and they soon disappeared. From what I have heard before and my experiences after buying this fish, it is very peaceful, great personality and a beneficial member of the tank.

How many raw shrimp are you using for your cycle? Should of just used one big ol' lobster tail haha

Get a pair of Crosshatch Triggers...

They're very shy and model citizens, plus will give some movement in the tank with size.

Will probably regret the Damsel route.

If you want to go small first, get a big group of hardier Anthias.

I want to take a pause and give a huge shout out to the team at Royal Exclusiv in Germany. As you know, they are the company that I bought my pumps, skimmer and sump from. Now the true character of a company comes out when things go wrong. And in my case, one of my 80 watt pumps stopped working after a few days. This was a pump that powered one of my reactors. Guess what- they shipped a new one out and I had it up and running in a few days. No questions asked. I also have 2 230 watt return pumps. Unfortunately one of them also stopped working a few days later. The controller went bad. Again- no questions asked- they sent a new controller and all is well. Just cant say enough about these guys. Very much appreciated for all their help in designing my system and more importantly building great products!

Here are my two 230 watt controllers. I have them dialed down and they are humming right along at about 130 watts each. Tons of flow in the tank with these guys.

This is how my sump room looks right now. Whats left to do is set up auto top off and auto water change. Install a second membrane so I get 1:1 RO to waste water. We are going to plumb the waste water to wash out my skimmer- that is the plan - will see how it works.

Here is my skimmer- after 2 weeks starting to create some stuff. Still trying to dial in the exact bubble height. Not sure if I have it set too low for the water level or too high.

That's good to hear that they replaced your equipment quickly, but it's a little concerning that so many pieces went bad already...

One thing I'm not sure if anyone has touched on in your thread is keeping an "emergency parts" supply. It's generally a good idea to have backup vital equipment in case an issue pops up. Often times it will take at least a few days to a week for a pump or skimmer to get swapped out under warranty. That's enough time for your tank to go south in a big way.

Personally I keep a new back up of the following in my fish closet and my tank is just a little 80g:

Return Pump fully plumbed to the Union
Heater
Skimmer Pump
Apex Base
Kessil
MP40QD Wet Side
Dosing Pump Tube
Various plumping pipe, fittings, etc.

There are multiple ways of using a GFI plug. The more sensitive ones are on the actual breaker not in the outlet. There is a new one now that costs $60 for a breaker that also provides protection and is a new international code requirement for bedrooms.

I'm pretty sure my guys took all the precautions with the breakers as they knew this was all for a fish room.

Btw- 2 words for you. Mighty Magnet. Freaking kick ***!
