1000 Gallon Build- Here we go- Lots of Pictures

This holds about a gallon. When it is full, it triggers a float valve to shut off the skimmer pump. The ping ball ball is redundancy and closes off the air exhaust to render the skimmer useless (even though the pump is still on)

I know we are joking around a bit but I want to be serious for a few moments. It's important to understand that I would never ever sacrifice my family or the necessities of life -food shelter water "“ to help fund a hobby. Everything that was done on the tank was done with discretionary dollars and it was not as if I went into debt to do it.

This is an important lesson in life as I see too many people leveraging their lives on credit cards and living beyond their means. I was a happy man making $16,000 a year back in the day and I'm a happy man now making more money. But at the end of the day I've managed to live my life without chasing frivolous items and trying to keep up with the Joneses.

I've been fortunate to have a great career and a great family and it's important to know that I've preserved enough to give my kids a great life in the future. However they will earn every bit of it and whatever I give them will just be gravy on top. At the end of the day it's important to be aware of your limitations and not go be on them so you can be happy and not just try to chase material goods.

Don't get me wrong I enjoy buying things like anyone else but never at the expense of stressing myself out and not being able to pay the bills. Ok carry on- soapbox over.

I don't mind you bringing this up at all, seems this kind of thinking is lost in our culture, and kudos to you for working at having a strong family. So sad to see many go the way of the Kardashians.

Update- I was out of the country for a week. Family as well. And as you can imagine, the biggest thing on everyone's mind was what the heck is going I happen to the tank?

I returned and have to say everything was flawless. I set up two Eheim auto fish feeders both dribbling in some pellets, flakes and bloodworms. I turned off my Reef Genesis water change system to be on the safe side. I left the Storm top off system on. I dialed the lights down to minimize algae growth. Let me run only 3 hours a day for 5 days.

Came back last night and everyone was sleeping. This afternoon after coming back from work- lights are on bright again, minimal algae on the glass to clean up and all fish and corals doing well. Out of town trip was successful and the break from the bright lights for a couple of days I think really had a positive effect.

Glad to know that the tank is humming along and my automatic everything is working well. Next week I'm gonna add a few more pieces of coral but all in all- things are thriving and striving.

Nice!!!

I just had a week away as well (working). My wife was home to take care of the tank, but her past experience was mainly limited to feeding.

I set up a Nest cam to monitor the two tanks in my living room while I was gone. Being able to peek in at any time was a big relief!
