1000 Gallon Rimless Build

Any updates? Pictures? I would love more of this tank as it is one of my favorites. There is just so much you can do with 1000 gallons...including snorkeling

Wow Reef shadow, great build, amazing rock work and the key is an understanding wife...lol I'm tagging along and can't wait to see the corals and fish go in.

I really love the rock work and will use this technique to redo my tank in the near future. I love the less is more look.

Plasma Lights dimming to 30% and Return

For those of you interested in the dimming capabilities of the the Straylight Plasmas here's you tube video of my tank with the lights set to dim from full to 30% and return.

I have all four lights set to one APEX variable speed port.

"Moe at Dolphin was great to work with." - She has helped me quite a few times over the years, especially when ordering replacement seals......

The other option is to go w/ sequence: I don't know how the customer service for sequence is. . . 4+ years on 3 pumps and I've never had to contact them . . . :rolleye1:

Sorry for the lack of updates. I have done a couple of things since I last posted. The open top posed a problem for fish jumping. I knew this was going to be a problem, I just didn't know how to solve it with out taking away from the look of the tank. Finally, I gave in and built screens for the top. I used the frame material you buy at Lowes and HD. The screen itself has a larger netting than household screen, allowing more light to penetrate. check out the photos. I'm very pleased with the result. In addition, I don't have to worry about finding a $300 wrasse potato chip on the floor.

Sorry to ask this so late in the process, but could you describe those SS bands across the top? Are they welded and bolted or just bolted? Is there some sort of buffer material between the steel and the glass? How broad are they, and how did you calculate the number needed to contain deflection?

Thx,

Dave.M

Dave, The SS brace is 2" Wide and 3/8" thick. They have three bolts in each of the end caps, no weld. The glass is buffered by a piece of rubber between the end camps and the glass. I started with three. Then to be on the safe side added to more on the ends to add strength to the silicone bond.

Later it was someone recommended I put silicone in the buffer to keep the bars from moving. I started to do that, but the rubber has made a bond to the glass

Thx. I've always wondered if this was a possible alternative to euro-bracing. I'm glad to see that it is working well for you.

Hi

amazing tank, very nice clean look

One question, I had a very bad experience with Ocean motion, they need plenty of maintenance. Actually I removed mine due to wear in my 600 gal system.
How do you plan to do that, I did not see any valve for securing in and out flow in the pipe layout of the tank

Claudio,

I agree, the Ocean Motions are a bit of a pain. It's an excellent product as long as you keep the sand out of it. There really is no other solution to create flow for a long peninsula type of tank, unless you want to stick vortex's or tunze all around the tank.

I did plumb in all the valves for the OC. I have dual 4 ways and each is connected with unions for easy service and replacement if needed. I
