What are you planing on Keeping in there? Why MH what wattage are you thinking if you do go MH? What are you doing for flow? Where is your chiller? You will need one with MH.

Oh when will you be filling it up, and what are your stocking plans...

Im shooting for 2 weeks from now to start filling the tank. Looking for the right RO/DI unit that I can hook up to my faucet, since I live in a apartment i can mess with the plumbing

Well the LR im getting is going to be some Uaniva (think thats how you spell it) the LFS is going to sell it to me 5.50 a lb cured. Dunno if that is high or low.

Then I would like the mushrooms, aneomes, soft corals and 2-3 SPS. For livestock I love shrimp a lot, so a few pistol, fire, coral band, and peppermint. Some gobys to dig and shift the sand a bit. 1-2 clowns for the aenomes. BI-Color angel for the girlfriend. Some Bennys also and 6 line Warras. A cardinal also. And of coarse the clean up crew of snails. And maybe 1 or 2 clams.

Now im sure i mentioned some live stock that wont go together, I havent gotten that far in my research to get a good list going, but soon I will.

Well actualy today I picked up two 250w MH 14k complete sets which I will be installing this weekend. I actualy need some suggestions on which timers are the best to use with these. I plan on having some lunar and antics for the night/dawn/day/dusk effect.

For flow I am hoping to get away with my return which will probably be 750, with the mag 9.5, thats what i got after i used that calculator on the front page. I am also going to get a 1200 maxi and get the upgrade kit at www.MJmods.com and hope i can get some kick *** flow like they advertise. My LFS also suggested that site also, so i have confidence they will work.

Chiller will be one of the last things I get, cause they are so expensive for 100g. Unless you guys got some suggestions.

First off I just want to help I am not here to make anyone feel bad nor am I here to put someone down. The live rock is too much IMO I can get you great looking stuff for about 3.00 per pound. Second a BI-Color angel really not that reef safe those as well as Flame Angels like to pick at coarls. Last I know you got 250's but that is just a ton of light over a 100 gal I have 250's over my 180 and they are hot. Lighting is a key in having healthy corals but so is flow and feeding. You can make up for lesser lighting with tons of flow and feeding but it doesn't work the other way. Last go slow take your time don't add coral right away and when you do start with shrooms and sofites. Good luck my friend.

You will quickly find you need more flow. I also have a 100G but with an Ocean Runner 3500 return pump, Ocean Runner 3500 on a drilled closed loop with a Oceans Motions Squirt two way, Seio 1100 and Seio 820 and it still has dead spots.

Very smart move on the RO/DI system by the way. There are lots of very good reef quality RO/DI units from several of the sponsors here on RC in the $149 to $199 range. Any of them can be portable so no plumbing has to be altered.

You might be allright without a chillar. I'm using a MH fixture over my tank and do not need it. My temp does not fluctuate more that about .5 degrees. I do not have a canopy however, so that may play a role.

well I am not offended I want the critisism so I can do the best I can.

For flow if the maxi mod works then I am going to get a few of them if they don't then I'm getting some seio's

Didn't think the bi color would work so going to nix him.

So do you think I went over board on the lighting? And is going to hurt anything with the tank other then heat.

So where is this 3.00 dollar per lb rock you speek of.

You are fine on the lighting if not even a little weak. The picture of mine is with 2x250w XM 10k which has outstanding PAR and 2x140w URI VHO Suer Actinics. I recently switched to 2x250w ReefLux 10k bulbs and like the little bit of extra blue they provide, just enough to bring the blues and greens out better.
You will need fans in the canopy right away if you do not get a chiller soon but they are easy. I use 2ea. 120mm(4") Vantec Stealth DC fans in the canopy, one in each end blowing in powered by a variable voltage DC power supply so I can vary the fan speeds to fit the seasons and heat load. The fans are cheap at newegg.com and the power supply can be had at Harbor Freight Tools, Radio Shack or even WalMart for less than $8 to $10. I did finally add a chiller though as humidity was a killer in the summer months and the fans raised evaporation to 6 gallons every other day. With the chiller now still at the same 80 degree temperature and running the canopy fans when the lights are on the evaporation is 5 gallons ever 4th day, much better.

I'm a computer designer and I love my fans so ya that is also on my list this weekend to cut some holes.

What kinda chiller you have for your 100g? And how much was it?

Do you have your lights on timer? And if so what kind?

So has anyone heard of how good the maxi mods work from www.mjmods.com ?

My chiller is an older 1/4HP SeaClear I bought used. I would say there are better chillers out there today but it was a good deal. I built the cabinet to the side of the tank to put it in and added the speed controlled fans to keep it cool inside the open backed cabinet.
I use the inexpensive three prong GE appliance timers from K Mart and they are pretty reliable although occasionally you get one that doesn't work well so I keep the packaging and receipt and they replace it with a new one. I have three in the system, both MH are on one, the VHOs on another and the light over my fuge is on a third opposite the main tank lights.
I ahve sen numerous complaints about the maximods being noisy and tend to vibrate if not balanced properly. Personlly I would save my money for Tunze NanoStreams. I have three Seios and they have been very good except for the suction cups, the Nanos use magnet mounts which are included with them. Your other and maybe even better option is aclosed loop with a fairly good flow rate. I am thinking about getting an OceanRunner 6500 pump and converting my Squirt to a 4 way and getting rid of all pumps inside the display tank for a cleaner look and less heat gain.

There is a guy on ebay with really nice stuff I think he is 3.25lb he is out of LA I will look for him a friend just bought 150lbs lots of live growth and sponges. There are alot of people who will scream just get MH 400 watts they don't even ask what you are keeping. Read some of the greats who have coral farmed for years like Bob Fener or Calfo. People offen just think they need to blast their corals with high lights to have nice growth and healthy corals. Water flow and feeding your corals imo is the most important. Sure you can't put a 75 watt bulb and great flow and feed you need to have enough lighting. Before my 180 I had a 100 that I ran 150's over it was loaded with SPS and had great growth. Corals will get used to lesser lighting if you supply great flow and food. Keep you eye on the prize. http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-08/ac/feature/index.php

Where can I find a write up on how to make a close loop system with out drilling cause I don't have the means to drill glass.

Do you have all your lights on one power strip or two
