10g Nano FOWLR

I thought I told you. The substrate I'm using now are little rocks that are about the size of the smilies that you can use. Gosh I'm just stuck between what I want to do. So I hope I'm not confusing you.

o ok. so you have rock but not really, you just have rubble...... You should go and get bigger rock say at least 10 pounds if you have the money.

NOOOOOOO......ok, let me explain this again...lol...Ok. my SUBSTRATE consists of little rocks....like pea gravel....but they are white...I have LR that look BIG ROCKS...not RUBBLE...lol. I have a UGF and was wondering if I could add on a powerhead or if I should get rid of the UGF and rocks all together and go out and buy some sand. Does that make sense? LOL, I hope so! LOL

Ok now calm down kid. Get rid of the substrate you have and put in some proper sand base. Lose the UGF. Read the forums, learn what works for people and what doesn't work.

I'm not the one with a ugf and gravel in my reef tank. I read the rest of the thread, it's just you acting impulsively and wondering where you went wrong. Typical high school kid.

It's not a REEF, I don't plan on getting any anytime soon. So you gon' be trippin' I suggest that youuu be keepin' it closed!

ok....I gotta jump in here....waveform- dont assume he is just acting impulsively and a typical HS kid! his parents (who know nothing about reefing) bought him the gravel you would put into a FW goldfish tank and that crap filter. Not his fault so dont go flaming unless you read whole topic.

Now.... Bluenano22- If you got a airstone or some sort of pump/bubbler you could use for circulation then try taking half the water out of your tank and into a bowl or rubbermade container and put the airstone in there with ur fish while you switch out your substrate. Get the sand you want and add it slowly to tank with a cup or something so it doesnt cloud the water too much. Dump the filter and get an aquaclear filter probably a 110. These are easy to modify into a refugium where you can put LR rubble and some macroalgea which will help with your nitrates and such. After you change out the substrate put your fishies and water back into tank slowly so you dont stir up the sand...and then you good to go!!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHH.....Thank You, Thank You!!!! I am so happy now. I'm goin' out today....(I hope) to get my sand and such with my brother because both my parents left on business to Missouri. I thank you so much. I thought I was going to be a complete FAILURE! I'll have to wait on the AquaClear maybe because I could just let the parentals buy it because it is my B-Day month so we'll have to see. How much do those usually run?

for price petco has the ac 70 for 35 bux on sale this month and you said a petco is there locally. Probably cheaper on the net somewhere but i know how parents are about ordering online for anything!! but once you get it you could find the mod of turning it into a fuge on here somewhere. sand swap will be really easy just be sure that the filter is turned off while you do it and GO SLOW to keep tjhe cloudiness to a minimum. I have even seen some people pour it thru a funnel to get it to bottom of tank without too much swirling. Even if it takes you 20 minutes just to get the sand in there its worth it and your fish will thank u. glad i could help

I'm not flaming, don't jump the gun here. A fowlr tank still needs the basic substrate and rock which is typically some sort of sand obviously. His parents bought the wrong stuff, he used it for some reason and now he has to redo everything. Already he's accusing people of "trippin" and acting just like a kid who only wants to hear what he wants to hear.

Aqua clear filters vary in price, depends what size you want. The big one is usually from $30 - $45 online. Close to $100 at some local fish stores.

he used it because he didnt want to make his parents mad and take the chance they would cut off his cash supply. And as for accusing peopel of tripping he was just frustrated that nobody understood exactly what he was trying to say. We have all been there as far as being young and jumping the gun in biting peoples heads off cuz that is an age thing. But everyone here was a noob at reefing (most still are, myself included) at one time so mistakes will happen. no harm no foul...i just didnt want to see the thread continue escalating like it had. He is fixingthe situation with LS and changing out the filter asap....so hopefully we will see a good FOWLR tank and maybe a good reef tank in a year or two. after all, all he really needs now is some good pc or MH lighting and a PH and would be all set! Remember blue, XMAS is only 5 months away!! LOL

Yeah, I used it because I didn't want to make them mad because they don't know what they're doin, so I just accepted it and decided to use it for a while, and now I feel like changin' it. Why you have and issue with it and no one else here does, I don't know why.

he doesnt have issues with that blue.....dont get all testy.....he thought you were removing your live rock and that the gravel had been your decision. Thats waht i thought at first untill i wnet back to page one and read the entire thread. It happens sometimes so dont take offense to it and start a flame war. Thats a great way to lose the respect of people on this great forum and then they wont want to help you out anymore.

well thats settled.lol. I see where you are coming from blue. Hopefully in the coming weeks you will be able to get the Ac filter. Anyways how are the fish doing???

Steve

Yea I know, but when the thread is already off to a great start and then there is always that one person that FREAKS out. I don't know why he even did that. I explained it a lot. And if you go back and look at my posts, most of them have "lol" because I am so open and love getting responses, but when someone comes in and disturbs the peace, I don't get too happy about that.
