updates with water now plz :)

Fair enough.

I just filled the tank today and added a little more sand to give some detail to the rock line so here´s some fresh pics:

Thanks for the comments everyone.

Nattar, I do have some ideas regarding coral placement but only when time comes to do it will I see if they are possible. It´s like a layout construction: no matter what plannings I make before, it´s only when I´m with the rocks on my hands that the ideas start flowing.

Absolute, thanks. Actually, you are quite right so to answer your question I only have one rock there as I aimed the layout for a unique, solid island. :)

Still have to deal with some noise coming from the return pump but, overall, the system is ready for cycling. Time to order the light bulbs combo for some bluish hue and to organize the wires in the sump area. I am also waiting for the Vortech MP10 to come to Europe. Can´t wait to try that bad boy here.

Oh boy, two reef tanks and in D-school! Where do you find the time! :eek2:

I can barely keep up with mine! How's that ATB working for you? Still running that mini jet? Best of luck.

Hello,

Thanks for the comments everyone.
There´s not much to update about the tank, other than it´s still fishless and coralless. I´m thinking in introducing a small fish sometime this week and turn the lights on for 6 hours/daily to keep the cycle going and minimize algae appearance.

I´m still waiting for the MP10s to reach Europe but it seems it´s taking forever.

Jay, yeah, another reef tank but, believe or not, the planted tank took me more of my time than almost ( almost because this one is still in the beginning) the two reef tanks I have. Pruning the plants, fertilizing them, cleaning the glasses, water changes, siphoning the sand, cleaning the filter and lily pipes, and so on. For the same goal ( aesthetically clean tanks and functional systems), reef tank maintenances are a walk in the park when compared to planted tank maintenances.

The ATB is working great! I couldn´t be happier. I even had to increase the organics by adding AAs and KNO3 so that my corals wouldn´t suffer from lack of nutrients. I am no longer running the new jet pump. I returned to the PSK and running the large pinwheel in it. The New Jet was slightly better than the small pinwheel but it was no match for the large one. It was also a little noisy.

BTW, I noticed your teeth-loving-signature :D . Are you in college too or already working?

Hello,

Got some news regarding the tank.
Picked up a small Dascyllus melanurus to keep the cycle running. It is doing great and if it wasn´t for his bad temper when reaches adulthood, it would be a permanent resident but since thet are aggressive, as soon as the tank is ready to receive the permanent residents he´s out of here ( back to the LFS).

Also started the transfer of some corals ( Zoanthus and LPS) from the 300L to this one. In general, all browned out a little but they all show healthy signs. In fact, the Caulastrea is showing signs of recovery since I´ve moved it, as it was loosing tissue in the 300L tank ( probably due to low nutrient levels). I hope it continues that way.

Actinic + 8000K

For now, the photoperiod is:

- 2 x Actinics 8h daily
- 2 x 8000K 6h daily

Looks like the MP10 doesn´t reach Europe until 1st September so I placed a temporary Eheim pump to improve flow. That should be sufficient until then.

Cute little humbug damsel, and yeah...quite mean. The corals look good. Your rockwork is going to look fantastic once the coraline gets going.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Adrienne, I agree with you. The coraline has already started to develop so it won´t be long until the hardscape feels more natural to the eye.

I took the damsel this week back to the LFS and bought some of the permanent residents. Tank is doing great regarding cycle and the Diatoms that have developed last week are now starting to fade slowly. The use of " live water" and the Elos Purist Line have been the keys to make a faster but steady cycle.

Here´s some pics:

The Goby is a great addition. Not only is beautiful but it has also an interesting behaviour and is officially my sand cleaner.

The Turbo snails are doing an excellent job in removing the Diatoms from the rock, exposing the coraline algae underneath wich is gaining more strenght, giving the natural look to the rocks.
