I am getting a 12 gallon nano cube.

could i run it LRless with a clownfish and a dartfish maybe gobie?

It would probably be best to have some live rock in it. Dartfish need a place to hide and if you don't give it one, it will probably find a way to jump into the back of the tank and they are a true pain in the butt to get out of there.

Is this a used nanocube that someone else modified? They don't normally have a skimmer or uv sterilizer in them. And the sponges are bad news.

No its from an online shop called cyberaquatics for £139.99. Which i thought was quite good. Could i set it up and add LR a little bit at a time?

well if you plan to do only fish and no corals or inverts, then yes you can go with no live rock, but like brian said, fish need places to hide. But in that case, you can get just plain dry base rock (which in time will actually turn live) at a very low price...it would be like 20 bucks or so tops to fill that tank w/base rock.
