These are what I wanting to add to my tank overtime. I have a 48 X 24 X 24, with an octopus 200 skimmer. I do around a 10% water change per week.

3 lyrtail anthias
1 christmas wrasse
1 red mandarin after a year or so
1 blue/green cromis
1 osellaris clownfish
1 gold headed sleeper or diamond watchmen goby
1 powder brown tang
1Vanuatu exquisite wrasse or something similar that is not red/orange

is this too much, or do you think I will be fine with my skimmer and 10% water changes? I also did not know about the wrasses being compatible with each other or with the mandarin.

Thanks in advance

hmmm well im not too sure about most of the fish on there, as i have never had of them. I do know the chromis like to be in schools, id go with like 3 of them. The mandarin will be god once you get a good amount of pods running around in there, i have one in my 75 and hes a fat happy camper.

I wouldn't put a powder brown in a 48" tank. I think everything else on your list should be fine, though.

Thanks for the responses, So pass on the Powder brown tang, I may look for a smaller one. Do those wrasses get along ok? Do they get along okay with bright lighting. I thought I read somewhere that exquisite wrasses need shaded spots

Yeah, pass on the 'powder brown', no matter which one you're referring to - the whitecheek or the whiteface. Your tank is too small for either. Look into the bristeltooths though, you should be fine with one of these.

Does the exquisite wrasse need to be a pair to keep its colors, or will it be fine by itself? Any other info that I should know about this wrasse or the christmas wrasse?

A bunch of years ago, I added a christmas wrasse to my 220 that had a 6 line because I figured the tank was big enough. WRONG ANSWER. The 6 line did NOT like him one bit...constant fighting. Try catching a christmas wrasse in a fully stocked 220...not fun. I only bring this up if you plan on keeping more than one wrasse. I know some of the wrasses can be kept together (carpenters, flashers etc), but the 4 line, 6 line, 8 line, and christmas are not included in this. Especially not in a 120.

I have been told by my friends in the hobby that only one wrasse should be kept per tank - otherwise they fight, but I personally don't have one.

So it was the 6-line that was aggressive towards the christmas wrasse? I have read that 6-lines can be aggressive and a pain down the road. I did not know that a christmas wrasse was on the same aggressiveness level. I was looking for some sort of halichoeres species to help keep things in line if needed later down the road.

Even in a 6'x2'x30" tank, the 6 line was hell bent on killing the christmas wrasse. Again, the 6 line was established...for quite some time too. Of course this was before I knew about RC and the LFS said it would be fine. The christmas wrasse couldn't sit still to catch his breath for 4 seconds because the 6 line was on his tail. Literally. I ended up having to catch it, and traded it for an urchin. The 6 line didn't mine the urchin. lol

+1 for no tang in a 48" long tank...IMO, go with a leopard wrasse. They can be difficult to acclimate, but are very peaceful fish. I've always heard how 6-line wrasse become little terrors sooner or later.

That is exactly why I did not want a 6-line. I think I would still rather have the exquisite wrasse though over the leopard. any other information on them or any of the others listed? Also recommendations are always welcome.
