120 gallon upgrade and build thread :)

Looks nice. What you could do instead of a Fuge, is put an ATS (Algae Turf Scrubber ) under the tank. People have claimed that they love them, and have no algae in their DT, because it's all growing on the ATS. I would still run the skimmer with the ATS, and have some sort of compartment in the sump for filter pads to catch the junk floating around.
Sorry, I forgot all about the ATS's. There's a thread on them somewhere on RC.... I'll try to find it for you.

Have I? Oh.. pretty clear my memory isn't that great, lol. Honestly... I think you'd be happier with an ATS, and you could let pods and such populate below the screen(s), but it whatever you wanna do.

I added a diamond watchman goby a few days ago Mel :) hes doing an awesome job at stirring my sand up.. lol but making my tank hazy... Any ideas as to removing this stuff? I was thinking a low flow hob overflow ran into a 10g refugium with a filter sock in first chamber. Ive already predrilled my stand for running a small refugium in it :)

I would just have your drain line going into some kind of filter sock. Seems like the easiest option...rubber banding a filter sock on the end of a tube.

I had a friend with an ATS and he hated it. hah hah. I'm sure some people love them but what I saw...sucked. It's another of the fads, in my opinion.

Why did he hate it? How did he have it set up?

It wasn't effective. I can't describe the exact set up because I don't remember but it was something about the water coming down via a spray bar or something. It doesn't matter though. He had done a ton of research about it prior to setting it up.

The thing is: these fads come and go (e.g. two 4h light cycles to bring out the color of corals). Some people will have great success with them and some won't. It's not a big deal. Often what works for one person doesn't for another because there's a million ways to run a reef tank and a bunch of them are correct...even if they're completely different than the way you or I would run it.

Well today was a sad day :( Havent seen my blue hippo all day was fixing to move all my aquascape to find her.. and i found her on the floor beside the aquarium.. My tank does have a glass canopy on top, but i had to cut and remove the back plastic strip to allow for my aqua c remoria, my return from my canister, and the heater power cord... So there is about a 3 inch open strip in the back corner... Figured my dartfish or watchman goby would have jumped.. never expected my hippo to carpet surf.

Sorry. Fish on the carpet makes you feel like you should have done something better. Even if that is not true, you feel bad.

O.o well i think i found what spooked my hippo....

Its crazy im just now noticing this in my tank
