125 build

Big john you need a keyboard that has big keys. I've seen a couple posts where you had to edit cause of a typo, lol.

Alright its time to sound like a idiot for a moment. I want to clarify something these are the filter cartridges I receive for my unit. Now I was told the sediment I need to replace every six months. The carbon and di resin every year, but was not told when I need to replace the to membrane. Could those who have been using a ro di system clarify the time frame I need to replace the filter cartridges.

Also is there some where locally where I can buy the ro colored hoses.

Thanks

I notice that the max cap 90 gpd unit is sold with two tds meter which measures the tds between each stage. I have only one which I bought since the unit that I bought from someone didn't come with one. Should I purchase another tds meter since it sells with two meters on it. I'm sure its not needed but I could be wrong.

after seeing picture of max cap I think someone sold you a fake unit. The sticker on front of the unit is wrong size and have a manufacture sticker . I own a max cap 90 unit

The person I got it from built it for me and use to work for spectrapure so he had a bunch of spare parts laying around. The mount bracket is probably an older one so that could be why the sticker looks a little different.

All morning I've been working on mounting my unit and I finally got it install and working. The funny thing is the p.s.I went up a little bit not much, but Its a little stronger 65. So I'm happy. Now all I need is get some more of the colored r.o. Hose which I probably will in the next week or two.

Definitely a spectrapure unit. Will used to work there and to think someone printed out a fake sticker to disguise it as a real unit, common lol.

Ya, well I didn't feel right listing who built it for me so I was being as brief as possible mostly out of respect for him. Also didn't want anyone telling him well you built this for so and so really cheap, built me one too.

It's a real unit and so what its missing a few things, which I am working on fixing. However not sure if a second tds meter is needed or necessary.

All I am trying to do is post my progress with my build that's all. So what if I know someone big deal. Don't be jealous.

Sounds to me like you have your TDS meter split between what the dual meters do.

The first meter on mine has TDS in from the street, and out after RO, second in before RODI and out at product.

That helps you see if your first stage filters are wearing out, so you can change them before higher TDS starts rapidly depleting your DI resin.

While yours tells you how effective your unit is, and helps you be sure your output is still in line, it really provides no safety for protecting the more expensive DI cartridges.

Not sure if it is vital for you to have both, but it could be a valuable addition over time.

Not sure if I mentioned it before but I'll clear things up a bit. The max cap will built me was in my eyes a bare bones 90 gpd max cap system. It didn't come with any type of auto or manual flush. It was explained to me how to make a manual flush, which I did. It also did not come with a tds meter single or dual, so I added a dual inline meter. After looking online a lot throughout this whole process I noticed and realized that the max cap system had two tds dual inline meters.

I have also read that it is good to have two dual inline meters installed on the system for the very reason you just mentioned big john. To be able to monitor your tds after each stage.

I will probably add another one, not sure when. I only wish I would of realized this before I ordered the first meter.

Oh well mistakes happen.

Also on a different note since I'm waiting for paid day I had a little money left and went to hd and bought some framing for screens since I still had some clear white mesh left over from the screen top I put on my 30 gal rL. I decided to assemble all three screen for the tank. Now it has a top. Lol

Sounds like you have upgraded it to the same filter I have. I have a 90 gpd Maxcap with a Manual Flush. I remember you mentioning adding in a tap for RO water, which I also did, for our water cooler.

Like I mentioned, I think having the two TDS meters is a good idea for resin life, but by no means mandatory. It should be noted that even Spectrapure says the meters are not :scientific quality" but they are very useful for determining rejection rate and filter life.

Glad to hear the build is coming along!

Yes you are correct. I tapped in to the roll line right after the membrane for the purpose of filling up 5 gal water jugs for drinking water. I could see the point in buying the drinking water kit from spectrapure when I have a water cooler.

Yes the Build is coming along slowly. I am hoping by Christmas it will be up and running. I am waiting on my skimmer from will. Then once I get that I can add the glass baffles to the sump and add salt water. Now I'm currently using red sea blue bucket salt on my 30 and dosing fusion 1 & 2 at a steady 1.0 mal each twice a day. Not sure if I should switch salts or continue to use what I'm use.

Some where in here I'm going to need to skin my steal stand. So I can mount my power strips. Need to have power to the tank.

For lighting I'm going to be running a nurture of t-5s and leds.

That's the plan right now.

Kalen or Big John,

Would you mind telling me where you got your storage drums? I am looking for a couple of those myself!

Thanks,

Hank

I got my storage drums from a employee who works at the pet shop he was selling them on the side. I can get a hold of him to see if he still has some or if he can get any. Home many do you need.

I got mine at Arizona Tank and Barrel in Apache Junction, although I hear the have a Tempe location now. Food grade were 35 each, but the had a 3 for special, so I don't remember what I paid for them.

I did mention in post #20 what I paid for the unit. Not sure why it really matters. However not trying to come off rude or anything like that. I'll give you the break down again.

The max cap 90 gpd without auto or manual. No tds meters. With the ro maintain, sediment filter, carbon filter and the two stages of di resin cartridges. So it was a bare bones systems in my eyes.

Cost:
The unit $100.00 with filters and flow restrictor
( 1 ) Tds meter $15.00
( 3 ) Ball valves $29.61
( 3 ) Tees $14.97
( 1 ) Garden hose adapter $7.76
( 1 ) Garden hose Y $9.97

That's what I've invested in the unit. I still need to get some more of the colored r.o. Tubing.

Hope that answers the question.
This system is used with new filters, membrane and minus tds meters. How much did you pay for this?

Jeremy

Were you told that the frame was a used system from 2012? I'm ok with the system if you were told it was used.

Yes when we first talked about him building me a system he told that the housing units would be used but all the filters would be new. I wasn't told that the housing was from 2012. That's good to know in a way. However with that said I figured it would be a complete system with all the bells and whistles. He told me it would be a killer system. No don't get me wrong I'm not trying to knock him or put him down in anyway. Just a bit disappointed. I didn't think I would have to spend any additional money once I got the system. Figured it would be plug and play pretty much. The next thing I know I need this part and this part. However with all that said the system works. I feel like this deal I got wasn't the greatest.

In your opinion do you believe I got a far deal. Now I believe it to be a max cap 90 gpd system from the images I have seen on spectrapure's web site. I know to complete the system I need another tds meter. And I'm thinking about re doing my manual flush line. Just so its a complete system.

Time for a stupid question. I've look through your web site plenty and I haven't see any r.o. Tubing. Do yo me having to mount it and me creating my own manual flush I would like to buy some r.o. Tubing to replace some lines but also as back up just in case I need to replace them. Does spectrapure carry them.
