Are you going to frag that colony that is distressed? I don't own Hydno's because of that.

It isn't STNing anymore so I blasted the white stuff with a turkey baster and will continue to do so until it's gone every day. I'll leave the skeleton there because that can become alove much quicker than regrowing new branches. The colony is very healthy so it should be fine. I was lucky that it was on the backside of the coral and is harder to see. If it continued to receed I would have definitely fragged it.
The hydno is a hydnophora exesa which turns out to be somewhat rare. I never had any trouble with that encrusting hydno unless it touches something of course. I actually took the encrusting piece into a LFS for trade to free up some real estate.

Well a while ago I was looking at a wrasse ID book in a LFS and came across the Exquisite Wrasse, I told the owner that I wanted one that looked exactly like the pic. I've seen some pretty ugly exquisites. I got a call Saturday that he got one in so I went today and picked it up. The first pics are of that wrasse and the last pic is of the Yellow-Flanked Fairy Wrasse that I picked up a few weeks ago, he's camera shy.

Dude, I just hate you so much. What's up with the fairy wrasse challenge? I will show you................. Yes, I will.....................

Well on that note, I stopped into a LFS today and they happened to have a supermale Lineatus wrasse which was very healthy and had a very nice price tag. He came home with me.

He is already out and about. Good. Hopefully this one will make it long term. Best of luck.

Yeh, he acclimated perfectly, no aggression after the inital hellos and he's still out swimming around and exploring. He's the prettiest one that I've had I think.

The picture is not working for me :( I cannot wait to see the newest wrasse. You keep me motivated to get my tank going and in great shape. :)
The site i link them from is temporarily down, they should be back up soon. How is the tank going??

So quarantine never even pops up in your head? I do tend to think about that, and it is one of the main reasons I don't get more fish.

As with many things in this hobby, there are pros and cons to all of our practices.
Since ich can appear on fish even if the entire tank has been quarantined there is no real reaon to quarantine for this. My powder blue came in with ich, I put him in the tank and a few others caught it. Their immune systems were able to fight it off quickly and I added a cleaner wrasse, that eats frozen mysis, to help out with the PB, who is now ich free. Brooklynella is a horrible illness but generally comes in on clowns so if I were to add more ever I would do a copper dip or formaln dip on them.
Even if I had a 20g QT, I would lose more fish than I would gain, it would just stress the fish more. If I would have left the PB Tang in a 20g for a month he would have definitely died. I just feel that if your tank is stable enough that most fish have a better chance at fighting of illnesses and if they don't the other fish are strong enough to fight it off themselves. Most medications that I've used do more harm than good.

I agree.... Although I've been in SW for a short time, my many many years in fresh give me license to chime in about quarentining ( for or against or neutral ) I've never practiced it even when buying a very rare or expensive fish ( and there were some back in the day ) with no ill effects... I've been through some harrowing moments like when they stopped importing angelfish for a while because of some Tiawanese virus that just about whipped out all the angelfish in the trade.... And my synodontis angelicus got FW ich but thank God ...pulled through ... now he's celibrating 10 years in my 29gal FW planted tank....

So if you are a firm believer in it... well by all means keep doing it... But I see no real benefits there... If you truely have to quarentine, then you should quarentine "everything" before it goes into your tank...IMO ( Bomber also made that statement )...

OK, I seriously didn't plan this, but I stopped into a LFS and what had my name on it?? A Blue Spotted Jawfish, this thing is awesome. I hope that he does well, they are known for health issues, aren't cheap, and very very hard to come by.
Here's some pics

Looking good man!

I'm going to have to chime in with Melev on this one. You do raise valid points about stress in a small aquarium, the fact that your tank is well established, among other 'cons', but you may enjoy checking this thread out, it has a lot of great info about quarantine.

Quarantine 101

The thread addresses both the pros and cons. While ich is one of the big hitters that, as you said, can hopefully be fought off by natural means, and brook is typically found in clown fish, I'm sure there are many other parasites and diseases that could be introduced to the tank, and the fact that yours has so many nice fish, I'd hate to see something bad happen.

I'm not saying QT is best or QT is a waste of time, I think it depends on each person’s personal situation among many other factors. I just figured you may find that thread interesting.

fishman805: I personally agree with Bomber as you said, everything, even macro algae, should be QT, particularly for a well established system where a lot is at stake if the worst were to happen.

Keep up the good work Greg; I'd really like to visit your tank next time I'm home, perhaps snap a picture or two as well ;)

ANOTHER FISH :eek1: :eek2:
Wow. That jawfish is beautiful. I love the colors. And my wife thinks that I am an impulsive shopper!

The tank is going well. I have LR, sand and one lonely Sailfin Blenny in the tank now. Hopefully some of my first corals will be added on the 29th after our local reef club meeting. :D

It really is a personal preference, during my experiences it really varies if you should quarantine or not.
You'll definitely have to come over the next time that you're down. I picked up the jawfish and Exquisite from Ocean's Below.

It really is gorgeous. I wanted one months ago but it was impossible to get one locally and I don't order fish online. I'll be getting some coral and my calcium reactor tomorrow, one of our reef club members is moving out of state and has to get rid of everything.

I picked up the stuff today, it was at Rick's house, where the meeting might be held. He was worried about the storm since he's in the middle of moving he isn't ready for it. He asked me to come get my stuff that I wanted. So today I got from him, a MAG 24 to run my skimmer, a Schuran JetStream 1 w/ PH monitor, 10lb CO2 tank, regulator, a crocea clam, and a purple w/ green polyps nana SPS piece.

Here's a teaser, I'll take more pics tomorrow, it took a lot of rearanging to make a spot for this huge piece.

BTW, TOMORROW WILL BE THE TANKS 1 YEAR BIRTHDAY!!!

Is he selling anything else?
From what you saw, are there any peices worth driving up for?

BTW....
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to your tank.
