Greg, have you had any issue's with the Fairy Wrasses trying to jump out?

I'm thinking about getting a few but I'm scared I'll lose them to jumping...

Alberto, you don't have room to talk, you almost have as many chromis as I have total fish, how many are in your tank total now?

I was going to put one in because they eat so many bad critters. Any others you would recommend?

Most fairy wrasses are prettier and much less aggressive, it really depends on your budget, some get really expensive. Some less expensive yet pretty wrasses are X-mas wrasses and orange back fairy wrasses

I don't even like to think of the hundreds that I've lost due to jumping, when I designed the canopy I made sure there was no way out and haven't had problems since. Don't risk it if the tank isn't covered, I even lost one when I used eggcrate and left it off for only 15 mins

hey guys, just writing to check in from hurricane land. the powers out now and most of the power lines are down but hopefully it wont last long. im writing from a cell phone pda and the tanks doing fine so far. ill have some cool video and pics when the power is back on.

I hope for you and many others that you get power soon. On the news they told us over 6 million were without power this morning in Florida.

Well, I just got off of the phone with greg and he is ok. there is no power as there a few polls down right outside the entrance to his development....the damage here is severe to say the least. greg has 7 air pumps running on 3-4 tanks. the reef is doing ok...he has a generator but finding gas to keep it running has proved to be difficult..he had the generator running for a while yesterday lights and all...but then the gas ran out...back to the air pumps..greg sounds confident he will be ok.... there are 3 gas stations opened near my house but there is at least a 2-3 hour wait in line...as for my reef, all is well two sps corals are dieing but other than that the rest is opened up and looking well..we got power back at 3:00 am. my tank hit temp bottomed out at 69 degrees. my chiller is also a heat pump. it brought the temp up to 78 in about 4 hours...then i shut it off.......i will report back for greg as i hear from him..until then i hope the best for all involved in this. storm........jaime

by the way the media reported this was going to be a weak catagory 1 or a tropical storm by the time it reached us....it was in fact the worst storm ive ever sat through....especially the back side, after the eye went over us, the storm was twice as bad as the front half...the reported wind gusts in my neck of town peaked at 118 mph...many people didn't take the usual precautions.....
we put up shutters as always and was sure glad we did...live and learn......jaime

I'm hoping for the best for you Greg..... As soon as I saw the path that it went through I thought of you and all the others that were going to suffer because of the power outages...... I hope you got gas.... ( I know that sounds bad but ya'll know what I mean )..

Thanks for the update Jaime

Outprowlin, your avatar never has been more fitting than now. You probably felt like that as it passed over your home. Thanks for the update.

lol you've got that right melev....it was really whipping around where....or as my neighbor keeps saying...("WE GOT HAMMERED")!! I took some video from the yard during the eye and also from my view port in the storm shutter....i will try to figure out how to up load it for viewing....

Greg:

I am still on generator and gas is a pain in the arzz. If you need any, let me know as I have a way to get gas for sure without lines.....................

Greg,

I'm glad you and the other regulars on this thread came through Wilma okay. I hope the critters do to. My brother-in-law left early yesterday heading your way to help out. Hang in there and let us know when you're back up. Good luck.

i just spent 3 hours in line on royal palm beach blvd to get gas...6 am to 9 am. thats a 1 mile line folks:thumbdown

so who has a nice state I can move to??
Seriously though, this hurricane stuff it getting really old, it used to be maybe one semi-bad one a year and now it's going to get progressively worse year by year. I really don't understand how real estate prices are still sky rocketing.
Anyways, the power returned this morning. The only known casualty so far is my blue spotted jawfish but I believe he had an internal parasite so he would have passed anyways. Everything on the tank is going and the skimmer is going crazy sucking up crap. All of the corals are opening up nicely so far.
The power company actually did an amazing job this time as the damage was much worse than last year by far.
On another note, before the hurricane we decided to move my girlfriend's 29g to my house. She's been lazy taking care of it and she's here more often to enjoy it anyways. I'm going to continue filling it with frags from the main tank. I'll take some pics later once those corals are open also.

bigreddog, what does your brother-in-law do??

Greg.... Glad to see that you're back online and that everything worked well for you... You've already made the hurdle so good luck

Bob

Glad to hear you got your power back already, but sorry to hear about the jawfish.

We're not much better up here, although we haven't been hit really hard since Isabel. You know, if they call the stretch from Atlantic Beach, NC to Virginia Beach, VA "Hurricane Alley" then South Florida must be "Hurricane Highway". Hang in there guys.

He's a firefighter and works for a mobile satellite company on the side. Between Katrina, Rita, and now Wilma we haven't seen him much lately.

Good news that you're ok Greg. Man I haven't posted here in a while. Well, I suppose you'll be proud of me. I've done tons more reading, and I'm not doing that stupid 20g tank idea, nor am I going BB. I'm redoing my sand bed, as the current sand is dirty with capnella frags and carbon that spilled, and probably lots of nutrients as it's only 2-3". I'm removing that, and making a DSB of 4-5"(with whatever fine stuff at HD, silica or not), seeded with LS from CTARS members. My rocks are currently cooking, and boy was there a lot of crap in them. I made an outline of my proposed tank too. I can email it to you if you'd like. Also, my redoing is just so happening around my birthday, Hanukkah, and Christmas, so I am getting LOTS of stuff to help me "upgrade." :) Your tank looks very nice as always.

Well one of my friends that was in a lesser hit area and only lost power for a couple of hours also lost her blue spot. I think that they had some kind of internal parasite so they would have died anyways. I really does suck though.
I've been considering moving towards NC eventually but I'll see.

Sounds like you've made some good choices, I'll PM you my e-mail address.

Gregg glad to hear you are ok.
We got hit hard down here and lots of areas still without gas and power. I luckily have had power since a day after the storm. I also lost a fish. I bought a Chevron Tang and have not seen it since the power has come back. Good news though, I also bought a Yellow Fin tang, at least that is what they called it at the LFS well he has been swiminng about exploring the tank.

Glad to here the tank is still doing well. Palm Beach County is still 70% powerless. I'm lucky that there is a fire station down the street from me. Keep an eye out for the Chevron he may still be scared. I know you don't want to drive up here now with the gas situation but I have your Madagascar Leather frag and it's doing well, just let me know when you want it.
