135g Oceanic Build

also.. if it wouldnt be too much trouble, would you mind posting pictures of just the white lights on, just the blues, and then both? I know you posted a few in your previous pages but I was quite positive which were which! Thank you in advance and sorry for all of the questions, I'm just kind of excited that I may have found an affordable and easy LED solution!!

Dude, I feel like an idiot, I forgot to put an "s" at the end. Aquariumled.com is for sale, not aquariumleds! SWEET!

Nice tank!

I have a 135gal Oceanic sitting in my garage waiting on me to finish collecting parts. My wife is warming up to it.

What a awesome build thread Bigcountry74. I really like those lights. I have a 90 gal fowlr that I want to start moving towards adding corals. I curently have just 2-96 watt compacts for lights. I know I need to change these out. Looking at the electricity savings from the leds, it may work in my favor when discussing the purchase with the wife:twitch:. I'm guessing for my 48" tank I'll need two of them. I like the idea of being able to add more if I upgrade tank size down the road. Wife thinks that makes sense as well. She thinks I'm nuts because I'm on craigslist everyday looking for that one awesome deal to come along.:eek1:

Do the lights come with the hanging hardware or is that something you put together?

edit-I just look at all the pictures on the site and see it shows the hanging hardware on the fixture!!!! Awesome!!!

Thanks!
Your tank pictures are really helping me with convincing the wife to go with these purchases!!!!:lmao::lmao:

Lights come with hardware to hang them on the adjustable shelving I purchased. 2 would be perfect for a 4' 90 gal. :D

And Craigslist is where it's at! I was teasing my dad last week. He ran salt 18 years ago (no liveaquaria, no ebay, no Craigslist). I was telling him how much money I was saving via Craigslist....lol

Back in his day the LFS was his only option pretty much...

Gotta be honest, ebay and craigslist make or break hobbies for me now a days because a lot of the fun involved is surfing and finding DEALS :D

So the toadstool I picked up, the next few days I noticed it was not doing so well. Looked closely at it, was covered in flat worms (small brown moving spots). Dipped it in "Revive" and 2 days later it looks fantastic...I cannot say enough good stuff about Revive. It works. I do not have any pics of what it looked like before, this was right after the dip:

2 days later back to normal :D

Also when I dipped it I had to dip the whole rock it was attached too. A ton of small brittle starfish piled out, I would estimate at least a few dozen....before I realized what they were I had killed them...another rookie mistake, these rock hitchhikers are actually good ones (they stay small and help the cleaning crew), a dozen of them would have made fantastic fuge personal...I did manage to save at last 10, so they are in the DT and should multiply soon.

sad to hear about the stars. usually i don't dip my rock/corals. I just put them by their self and watch them when added to the tank. leave them in an open spot away from others. if you see something stat to come off the rock/coral you can grab it or see it. dipping can sometimes kill some of the things you want in your tank. i really like your build, keep the pics coming. great job so far.

yeah I was not sure what to do about the flat worms outside of a dip. what I should have done was hold the rock upside down and just dipped the toadstool in the bucket versus the entire rock. lesson learned no doubt :(

the dipped worked fantastic on the toad though. all the flat worms floated right off.

Looks good! Two questions:

1) Have you considered extending the canopy down to the tank to remove the gap between them? and then for access to the tank, you could just put the front pane on hinges and prop it up. Just a thought.

2) I'll be in Charlotte this summer for an internship. Unfortunately I won't have a tank up and running (seeing as I'm still in college and $cant$afford$one). Could I swing by that Charlotte reef club as a temporary member for the summer? I'd love to just meet and talk with other reefers, but as I don't have my tank up right now and I'll only be there for the summer, probably won't pay for a year membership.

Thanks!

Hi I have been enjoying the conversations, and the build. I have a little GHA problem myself, and I have tried a lot of things that have not worked very well. I had not heard of a diluted Hydrogen Peroxide wash, can you tell me about what ratio you dilute the H2o2 and the salt water?
Thanks!

I never used hydrogen peroxide. I inherited the algae from the purchased rock. I scrubbed each rock in a seperate container of tank water and killed the lights for a few weeks (outside of running the blue lights for a few hours a day). Worked like a champ. Of course I had no coral at the time so I was able to get away with no lights for that long.

Hey, I just got to this thread after I've got my own fixture (BC posted a review there). The website is www.aquariumleds.com . You are missing the "s" at the end of the name. The lights work great. I have been runing one fixture of the 14K and they are pretty good.
Frank.

Going hiking for a few days this weekend so I went ahead and installed an ato (auto top off system). been meaning to do it but used the trip as motivation. now all the wife has to do is feed the fish...

Got the float switch kit via autotopoff.com and the 7g water container from relianceproducts.com. then picked up another 19 dollar water fall pump (same one I used for the scrubber) at lowes.

Also won 100 bucks last weekend in neighborhood poker so I picked up a few more LPS at the local fish store, 6 pieces - 2 brains (favia and favite), 2 galaxia, 1 zoa colony and 1 caulastrea (candy coral). The guy hooked me up, I am in good with a few of the floor salesmen, well at least they make me feel like I am...haha:beer:

Getting green coralline now...I have multiple colors of that stuff....the green is popping everywhere, like the purple was weeks ago. Hopefully it will turn to purple, that looks more appealing to me personally.

For anyone following this thread. get a kick *** skimmer and a RO/DI unit. All credit goes to those 2 pieces of gear in this build. literally. I dunno what i would do without those...
