1500 Gallon 100% DIY reef Build

Very impressive build there sir. What makes it more awesome is the fact that you can swim in your tank in front of friends and family and show off.

Did I mention 100% DIY on the cheap? I made due with what I had. Didn't have a sheet of acrylic nearly big enough. Although looking back it probably would have been a much better option, especially if I ever decided to cut a whole in the side of my house to move it.

You didn't have an 8.5 foot sheet of acrylic, but you had those huge slaps that make up the walls?? :D Considering that base though you could have gotten away with much thinner sheets of acrylic, probably doesn't even need to be one piece too.

We know you have some sort of filtration... You have overflows, right? Lets see the filtration already. Or better yet, lets see a 5 min video on youtube.

This hurts my brain. You have a huge set of man parts..... I don't trust myself with that much water. Did you use the 2 part acrylic glue or the water thin stuff? I'm hopeing the first one lol

I too am anxious to see the guts of this thing...please share when you have time...

Preferably pics, but a description will work if you dont want to show off the life support lair er ummm.....dungeon/fish room.

Such a cool tank, great job, im jealous. Im assuming the top is totally open, or did you brace it?
Thanks. Yes it is braced on top...will have to get a pic of that

Dungeon/mad scientist laboratory/......
Haha is that a pair of antlers I see? maybe even with the skull??
Yes you are correct

We'll start with the refugium. It's in there. After about 6 months of the tank running I ran into ridiculous amounts of nitrates and was not about to do massive water changes every week, so I built a greenhouse. It started off as a 10'x5' lean to type structure with 1 tank and evolved into a 25x25 greenhouse that has had over 30 tanks running at once.

Getting ready for this winter I scaled back down to just a few and sectioned it off to reduce heating costs.

Then there is the dungeon under the tank.

Some plumbing.

I guess you can consider this the sump, or the last chamber before the water is pumped back upstairs. There's 2, 100' heating loops of pex. The primary is ran off of an outdoor wood fired boiler and the secondary is off an electric hot water tank.

Yes I know...I have a few mental issues.
But I will keep going anyway.
A few frag/grow out tanks all connected to the same system probably bringing total system volume up to about 2500 gallons

My masterpiece of hillbillied up PVC and plastic parts/pieces that I like to call
a protein skimmer that actually does work very well.
