well its finished. and its running pretty flawlesly in terms of chemestry and plumbing. will post more details of the setup but heres what the inside looks like as of now.

its going to take ALOT of frags and patience to get this puppy filled.

thanks guys! again i didnt mention this in here but this is actually the property of a friend and he had asked me to bring it back from the dead. it previously ran on a closed loop with two canisters now it has a full sump system skimmer etc. it is actually lit by a very old fixture....neither my friend or i could identify its maker. and he cant remember the name from when he had bought it. what i can tell you however is that it is running a combo of 3 MH HQI 175W each and T8s ( but the t8s only reach half way on one side and half way on the other.)

so the plan was to take it out gut the t8 mounts and put in some royal blue LEDS to complement the MH bulbs. the tank isnt deep and we were wondering if it would require 250W MH instead but for the tank being about an arms length deep and rocks reaching so high up im pretty sure it will more than suffice for all types of corals. the ontly thing it lacks is the ability to make colors really pop...it does but nothing you havent seen before.

its sitting inside a stand divinding a room and its completely viewable from all sides . it also sports a built in RODI system and fosset with running water if needed along with a ballast the size of a backpack haha.

the sump is light by t5HO from aquatraders....just needed a cheap efficient light to keep corals for adjusting and grow some cheato in the refugium.

oh ps. the color is more purp than blue but i guess its what the camera picked up. and you can really tell the left side of the tank has the T* actinic on the front side lighting up the front of the tank while the other side is light more on top and the back where you cant see.


strange they made that design decision
 
oh also wanted to say i noticed a tad of green and red slime in certain places. i dialed back the light time and asked the owner to feed less. im sure its not the over feeding its just the initial algae stages a tank goes through from whatever traces of junk it has after a cycle.
 
update its been a little while since i last posted in here so i guess i felt like documenting changes.

water finally cleared up, slime is starting to break up and disappear.

there are about 5 more but i could not get good pictures of them. the glass is pretty think or perhaps it was the angle in the water that just created some extreeme finging and vignetting not to mention ghosting this is what i could salvage from all the pictures i took.

this guy hasnt fully open yet. perhaps ill move him lower, near more water current and keep an eye on him....any suggestions? its only been a day since they have been added.

If you camera body accepts a Canon mount, and you want to come by the studio, I can loan you for a day, a Canon 180mm f/3.5L macro lens to capture your tank images.

As that is a $1,500 lens, I would expect you to exercise extreme care with it -- and I'm sure you would.

i have a canon 1000D or XS...and a few lenses but most are all garbage. and manual aside from the crappy kit lens it came with which i avoid almost at all costs.

yes if you dont mind i would love to see what life looks like through an L lens.
even if i dont leave your studio...ive just never had the fortunate experience to know anyone who owns one...i guess ive been very curious to see pixel peeping wise how my own lenses stack up and if its my camera that limits them or if its the lenses that limit my camera.

could i bring my lenses too so you can see what i have and advise me from what i have what it would be best to invest in in the future?

You probably are aware that on an XS sized image sensor the 1.6x field of view crop comes into play, which will make the 180mm lens an effctive 288mm lens on your body. Shouldn't be an issue, just something of which to be aware.

I have only L series lenses, but that's my business -- except that I do have 1 EFX lens that I use for underwater photography on an XSi, an 10-22mm. My bodies are 1D & 1Ds and I dont take them underwater for obvious reasons that they are too expensive to destroy from water leakage.

yes im broke and whats worst is i substituded methodone (photography) for crack ( saltwater aquariums) and i cant afford either and am in denial about having a problem when it comes to them.

ill pm you and we can set something up whenever its most comvinient for you.

oh and yes i am aware of the 1.6 crop factor...its a love to hate thing for me i have an 85mm NIKKOR i love using and its...just too zoomy...more so than it needs to be.

Let's shoot for a time next week. I'm leaving for the Scranton in a few to pick up a friend flying in from Dallas for the weekend.

turns out it was 60 afterall and for some reason i counted 80 initially. was reimbursed hahah.


ill be checking on them on monday to see if they have all opened finally if not i guess relocation may be in order.

the owner was very pleased with the frags by the way.
