170 Gallon Moonview Library set up

I just switched to the new Solaris I4 from the H4. The difference, unfortunately, is night and day. The I4 is *significantly* brighter than the H4. The reason that I say that this is unfortunate is because I shelled out a large amount of cash for the H4 and it was supposed to be MH equivalent.

I had some people over this weekend and they helped me with the change out. Everyone, including my wife (who never notices anything about my tank), commented that the new light was considerably brighter.

I have had some trouble keeping SPS alive and, although I have kept a number of them alive, none have thrived. Hopefully, this will make a difference.

p.s. On another note, in changing out my light, I had to take the canopy off. Once I had the canopy off, I decided to clean out my overflows. I found a clown fish in my overflow that I lost about 9 months ago! Fat, happy, and living large in the overflow. It is now back in the main display swimming with his buddy.

haha nice find with the clown! Have you contacted Solaris to complain about the old light? seems like they just cost way too much to not work correctly. I think ill stick with my halides!

I have realized that I have severely neglected my tank build thread. I usually just make a new post and don't add to this.

Anyway, I guess I will start using this again, just to keep it all in one place.

I have not had any issues with nitrates, nitrates, or phosphates for months. I just let the tank do its thing and it all worked itself out. Where I have struggled is with calcium and alkalinity. I have switched my regulator on my CO2 tank and believe that this new regulator will give me much greater control. We'll see.

Sweet Jim, how much did that run? cool toy, i would get one if the price is right. hey, did you get those fish out yet? :D Wiz ;)

It cost about $185.

The fish are still wiÞh me. I am going to need to use a fish trap. I just haven't had the motivation to deal with it.

That's fine, just let me know when. Would a bowl of Pho get you motivated? My treat :D :p

Haha. Food usually works.

See if you can talk someone into loaning you a fish trap. 3/4 of the issue is just getting a fish trap. Once I have that, the motivation will follow.

I finally got my ACIII back on the internet! I have VoIP phone service at home and I have always had the modem connected to the VoIP box, and then my home wireless router connected to the VoIP box. I order to use the ACIII on the internet, You have to have port forwarding, but I was unable to get the VoIP box to port forward to the wireless router and then forward on to the ACIII. Anyway, I found that I can actually have the VoIP box connect after the router into one of the ethernet ports on the router. Now, I have port forwarding set up to my ACIII and I am back online. Click my red house!

With all of the travling I do, I want to be able to see my parameters while I am on the road, mostly for peace of mind, but also in case of emergency. I can also control my tank via my blackberry. I have a water sensor on the floor of my sump and on the floor behind the tank. I have several alarm modes set up to where the ACIII will e-mail me if there is an alarm and I can quickly turn off the pumps, calcium reactor, skimmer, etc., if there is an issue.

That is very cool!! I can't wait to get mine up and running.

Is that the aquanotes software Jim or what came with it? I splurged a bit and got the software.

ACIII right out of the box. Nothing else needed. I do have a wireless bridge, since I am nit able to connect my ACIII directly to my router.

I wouldn't mind getting an IPhone, except then I have to have ATT wireless. :(

Thats the iphone aquanotes..... Really cool.

I almost thought about selling my Profilux for the ACIII because of it, but I have my iPhone monitoring my profilux now and it looks fine. The only difference is it's just not an actual APP for the iPhone, it logs in through the net (which is fine with me as long as I can see it)....

You can jailbreak your iPhone and use T-Mobile as well, but I honestly have had NO issues with AT&T, much better than my old sprint phone. :D

I am not a big fan of Sprint, either. I travel a lot, so I find Verizon is the most consistent and reliable. If you stick to big metro areas, they are all about the same, but when you get to Iowa, the Dakotas, etc, then you see the difference.

Jim, I was just up in the mountains in Colorado and the iPhone worked great (actually much better than a friend's blackberry on Verizon - even had 3G in most spots on the slopes). I used to have Sprint and Verizon before ATT - when I first switched a couple years ago, Verizon's network was superior, but I don't think that is the case. Ever since Cingular merged with ATT, I have found their service to be much improved. I also think the extra revenue from iPhone subscribers has helped them -- seems they are reinvesting in their network.

AT&T, as part of the contract with Apple, had to invest in a massive upgrade of their network. So, you could be right, but not necessarily in the outlying areas like Iowa, Nebraska, and the Dakotas. The mountains of CO get a large amount of very wealthy tourists, it's not what I would call outlying. I hear that the investment is not paying off for AT&T. We'll see. My friends that have IPhones absolutely love them.

Plating coraline algae

Plating coraline algae

I have been having this coraline algae take over my tank. It is irritating, to say the least. Is there anything that eats it or something I can do to get rid of it?
