Very easy to program! You can literally push down on the flap, which acts as a button, to over ride what ever you have programmed. I can push it early to turn on the MHs, or push it to turn them off early.

Thank you.

Tank is doing well today, fish are being their usual selves. The last minute swap seems to be a success. Everyone is eating, and playing happily in the current provided by the seio 2600.

Next step is to finish the power control center. After that I think getting the permanent sump/'fug should be the next step, however I am betting that we'll end up doing the lights or the planned sliding storage drawer, or the sliding top off bucket.

Does anyone have any saucy fish tank storage ideas to share? How do you store your supplies? I mean all of your supplies, the small odds and ends, dry foods, testing equipment, etc. Photos would be awesome if you have them.

I just keep mine on the floor:

Just kidding. Seriously though. I am going to keep all of my stuff in my fish tank stand. It will all fit on the far right side cabinet of my stand. I use to keep everything in a linen closet near my fish tank. Before that I had a rubbermaid tote I stored everything in, and snapped the lid shut.

Nice photos!

I have/had a drawer under my nano tank that I kept a lot of stuff in. I also have 3 boxes of misc. stuff in my second bedroom. I just need a cleaner more sleek way to keep everything. I hate having stuff out and laying about the condo.

Ah yes, Ebay...a place of many wonders.

I have a small closet (Where the dog's stuff is, plus other misc stuff for them). All it took was one good clean out and a bunch of crap that needed to be thrown away and voila!

I need a closet like that. I figure in a year I'll have a fishroom to store everything. The condo life will be coming to an end by this time next year. I'm buying myself another house for my birthday!

I wonder if I can get away with a bookshelf with doors?

I think I will take it, possibly pick it up on Friday or Saturday morning. I am hesitant that the original owner will not carry through with their end of the bargain and find the fish a proper home. I hope though that this temporary fix will help the fish in someway.

Since we are at least a year out from our 1000g system, I'm afraid it will outgrow the 180g before that system is ready. We have been amassing pumps, and equipment for the big system for awhile, so it should be pretty quick to bring online. I need to collect more rock at this point, but I have time to watch my local buy/sell boards to get more.

Some more progress. Our gate valve FINALLY came in, at $60, it was quite the expense. Kevin used it to adjust the overflow height. So right now the water from the overflow goes straight into the rubbermaid sump/skimmer compartment, and then is returned to the tank.

The fish are eating me out of house and home at this point. It usually takes me about 6 to 10 weeks to make it through a ziplock bag of my own homemade food. However I have gone through my remaining half a bag in a few days. Why so quickly you ask? Because I picked up a few fish from the local LFS for a stupidly low price, as in $40 a fish. A few of the fish won't be staying with me long term, but they came as a package deal, so I couldn't really say no. At least they are in a bigger system now then they were before. I think they may have been in a 90 or 100g long when I got them. The scopas and the purple tang immediately became best of friends. They school together all day long.

I picked up a Powder Grey about 3 or 4 weeks ago, and put it into QT. When I got it, it looked thin, and its coloring was off. I originally thought that the coloring was a result of where it had been collected. While it was in QT its personality changed 180 degrees. It was shy initially, and skittish. Towards the end it was out all the time, always begging for food. The powder grey, or white cheek tang, immediately began to change color after a few days of being fed regularly. When I first picked it up it had a white back end, and did not display the white under its eye. Now after a couple of weeks of heavy feeding in QT it has color up to a nice solid dark grey, the yellow has come into is back end, and the white under its eye is beginning to appear. It also eats everything I put into the tank, a huge improvement from only picking at brine shrimp at the store.

Tomorrow I'll be making more homemade fish food. I have derived my recipe from an amalgamation of the contents of Jnarowe's, Melev's, Naka's and a few other's personal recipes. I've also added in a few things to tailor it to my tanks needs. I am making extra this time as usually since its a big hit on our local board.

I'm watching the documentary Sharkwater this afternoon for something to do. Its really good, but disturbing. I want to pick up the BBCs Blue Planet DVD set the next time I'm out shopping. Any other good media anyone would recommend?

Catherine, try to avoid overfeeding your tank just because you have a bunch of fish. I made that mistake in the beginning with my 280g reef, and it was a real problem (with PO4 and NO3) for many many months afterwards.

Smaller meals throughout the day might be wiser.

Shadow of the Shark - The underwater lives of Ron & Valerie Taylor. When I saw it on the TV guide I thought great another Shark documentary (there was another 6 on at the time) but I watched it and I was VERY impressed. Its not just about sharks it follows Ron & Valerie Taylor who are two of the most influencial people in the Marine bio world. It guides you around there reef dives and tells you about there lives. Definitely something I would recommend.

I actually feed 4 times throughout the day, small amounts every time, about the size of a toonie each time. Nothing ever seems to make it lower then 5 inches below the surface. :D

I'll definitely look up Shadow of the Shark.

They also have a number of books if you're much of a reader. The only one I have read though is called Great Shark Writings and I very much liked what I read.
