180 gal - rebuild in my new home

what are you doing witn the carpet in the mean time?

The carpet is housed with the LR and soft corals in a seperate tub. It is doing well so far.

The sump has been preped a little. It is a 200 gallon acrylic measuring 96x24x22 I think :) I picked this tank up from a friend locally. I am still trying to decide how to divide it up. Someone had glued black acrylic to the inside at one time. Man, I had fun poping what was left of it apart, NOT! I painted the back black with a Krylon. It isn't the best looking thing in the world. I do feel it will do the job very well for me though.

Ok, I have been working my butt off up to this point. I laid a new floor last night and it turned out great. Let me know what you guys and gals think.

The before shots after the drywall was completed, painted and electrical outlets were installed.

Right Wall, I still need a cover for the switch for my 6 skimmer outlets. I like being able to kill all the pumps at once.

Left Wall, a few more outlets and a distribution panel that needs the cover installed. It has to wait till I take down my temporary tank though.

Floor shot, this was after the floor leveling compound cured.

Thanks Andy

I was able to set the sump stand, sump, skimmer and the platform for the return pumps last night. I need to pick up some more plywood tonight to build some shelving for the calcium reactor and kalk reactor.

I took some time with a wet sponge last night and did some more clean up on the sump and it is looking better and better each time I go over it.

I am trying to decide if I want to make a drain out of the return hole that is in each of my overflows. I will be feeding my returns through the two 3/4" sea swirls I already have. My big concern is if the teeth will allow enough flow through them to run two drains in each overflow. Also, will I be able to stand the flushing sound of water traveling through the hard 2" PVC pipe I am running for the drains back to the sump. I suppose I can build the stand pipe with a coupler on the end at the top so I can do a quick change if I don't like having two drains set up.

I have made a little more progress on the project. The tank was filled last night. I have dropped in a little live rock to start building up my bacteria in the water. I will be out of town next week so the project will be on hold for a little while. Enjoy the photos.

It was a bit larger than I was planning for. It does have a lot of potential for future growth that is for sure.

and its really set up to tinker, something id be doing all the time.

This looks great mike. You didn't get lucky enough to just pop out a cold air return to get the plumbing down did you?

Hey Mike, looks awesome! Unfortunately my progress is much slower since our move. Still can't convince my wife to let me drill holes in the floor of the new house.

I too had the same issue with cutting the hole in the wall. I just offered a comprimise in her favor. The plumbing did come out more obtrusive than I had intended. I still need to build an oak cover to conceal the drain pipes. I should have the calcium reactor and kalk reactors in place this weekend. Well, if time allows that is. I am still contemplating what fish to restock with first. I am thinking another scribbled rabbit fish, pair of blue throat triggers, false percula clown and some anthias of some sort.

Thanks for the complement and I hope she comes around for you and allows for the holes :)

You just need to make the wifes understand that you can easily "glue" those hole cuts back in place and paint over them so that you could never tell it was cut...

It doesnt have to be true. :)

Mike, Thats one big sump!

That was very well put. She may have a masters degree. However, she doesn't understand the concept of using a drywall knife. :)

That sump was all I could find on such short notice. I don't have any bubble issues at the other end. That is one good thing I have to say about it.
