180 gal - rebuild in my new home

When it rains it pours.. I found what appears to be redbugs crawling on one of my SPS corals last night. So that brings my tally of issues to Red bugs, Red flatworms, Aptasia and good ole Bryopsis. It's times like this that I look at my tank and wonder if I should pull all the fish and corals. QT everything and start all over. I have a plan to tackle each issue. However, working with 400 gallons of water takes a little more planning and preperation to treat. What disturbs me most is the fact that all the money and preperation spent still doesn't assure me of a cure. I have read several times that flatworm treatments are not always successful. I guess I will have to give it a shot and see.

Anyone want some frags from my infested tank?

while I was viewing the thread, my fish got jealous and said they would rather live in your sump than my 75gal display.....

Could be much worse AEFW are the real concern, hopefully after you do an interceptor treatment you dont notice AEFW like has been reported.

If you need a hand taking the whole thing apart i would be happy to help. sorry about the trouble.

I have two SPS corals that I think are infected with red bugs at the moment. They are getting pulled tonight for their first treatment. I have 3 nice sized cleaner shrimp in my tank. I really don't want to drop interceptor in with them in the tank. I fully agree with you AEFW would be much worse.

Hahhahaha... I hear that a lot. That tank was all I could find at the time to fit my needs :) In my previous setup I had a lot of floods. With the addition of a 400 gal display some time in 2010 I wanted to be sure that I didn't have any flooding issues.

What do you think this set-up will set you back monthly to run? I'm scared to even think about it. Especially if I do it.

how goes the interceptor mike?

did you lose power at all in the storm?

I just started the interceptor today. I pulled out my SPS and they are being treated in a sperate tank. I did not want to wipe out my pod population again. It's been a busy tank maintenace day. It seems like everything that could go wrong is going wrong. The needle valve for my C02 regulator was clogged. I thought something was the regulator all together. Luckily, it turned out to be a plugged needle valve. As I pulled my SPS out I found some more bryopsis growing behind the rock work. I wish that stuff washed off easily. As for the power losses, there hasn't been any in my neighborhood. I am very thankful for that.

Hows your tank doing?

Hey Brad,

The water bill runs about 90 every 2 months. The electric bill is usually around 170+ I am not sure what a normal utility bill looks like anymore to tell you the truth. I think I am institutionalized to the point that I think this is the norm for eveyone :)

you dont want to know, i have Mojanos that have taken over killed most all my SPS that the mini crash didnt kill, so now i have a pretty empty tank. just my clowns. anemones, other fish and couple SPS that are hanging in there and 500 Mojano anemones.

On a lighter note
I am pretty sure im ordering a 48x27x14 shallow rimless tank today, to replace my mojano species tank, will start fresh with new rocks on this one and im going to be a NAZI about hitch hikers in my new tank. :) new tank will be a BTA species tank with a couple choice sps.

BTW i pay 86 a month electric for my little apartment and we both have it good, there was a thread in reef discussion about electricity costs and our area was one of the lowest reported in that thread, In california your bill might be 500 bucks.

I hadn't taken any photos of my tank in a while. The growth has been slow, so there hasn't been much of a desire. Take a peek and see what has happened.

this thread should be titled "step by step on how to construct a fish room"
awesome job--simply awesome

Thank you for the compliments.

I tried to outline as much of the build as I could. I know I enjoy watching others build progress as well. I have a 300 gal deep demension tank to add to the fish room. The 180 is going to get pulled and sold soon. I'll setup a temporary system in the 100 gallon tank you saw in the fish room. I was going to put in a small sump for the 100 to drain into. I'm starting to think a 100 gallon rubber tub for a temp sump will be the ticket.
