very nice looking so far although i am only on page 2. I will be seeing up a 180 in the hopefully hear future as funds become available so i like to keep an eye on the 180g build threads.

Thank you Lowredranger! Its been a great ride so far.

Wanted to post a good shot I got of the Scolymia while it was open this morning. It must have been hungry because its usually open at night, but this morning when I fed it must have sensed the food and opened right up. I fed rotifers and it closed up on them.

Hello,

Just a few updates to share:

- The monti cap and poker star monti frags didn't make it. They are all skeleton. No coloration, no polyps left. It's a real shame.

- The rest of the corals are doing great. Showing great PE and growth. My Magnesium and Calcium levels are low and I bought and will begin dosing to raise the levels.

- I have a few fish in quarantine at the LFS (YAY!) Yellow Tang, Purple Tang and Six Line Wrasse

- A very welcome surprise is that I have located my RBTA, which I was sure had died. It is doing well, and has a lot of color from what I can tell. Its hard for me to see and reach it as it has decided to position itself in the very back of the tank in a place that I can only see if I lean over and peek through a little cave. I may have to reposition some live rock. I will assess the situation and decide what to do with it... but I'm very happy to see it alive and with good coloring.

Lastly I thought I'd post an anecdote in case anyone else experiences something similar...

My tank has been up since June and with lights since late July. I never thought anything of it but around that time I started having horrible static on my phone at home.

We have FiOS internet/phone, basically fiber optics to the house and then copper inside the house, so I discarded it being a problem in the wiring to the house. Anyway, long story short I have been bothered by this static on our phones, both the corded and cordless ones and I haven't been able to figure out what the problem was, until I looked into it a bit closer and realized that after 11pm the noise was gone... BINGO.

My Coralife Aqualight Pro light fixture!

It appears that 1 of the 2 actinic ballasts is doing something that is causing a horrible static on my phone.

One tube does nothing, the other makes it almost impossible to hear...

Not sure how to fix it yet, but at least I'm happy to have identified what was causing it.... 3 months later!:D

To close with a couple of pics... not from my tank, but I visited my LFS this week and took a couple of shots from one of his display tanks:

Best,

Greetings to all,

I visited my LFS on Friday and looked at my fish in quarantine. They are looking great and I can't wait to get them in! Will be a couple of weeks still.

On Thursday I finally bit the bullet and with the help of Sean, my buddy from the LFS we rearranged some of the liverock in the tank, primarily to turn the piece that the RBTA had settled on and have it facing forward.

I've been feeding it mysis shrimp with a turkey baster and so far it seems to be pretty happy, and staying put! I can already notice an improvement in its coloration in the 60 hours it has been in the new direction. It also has better water flow and lighting than it had facing the back.

Here it is today:

I got a frag of Green Star Polyp on Thursday as well, but so far it hasn't opened up one bit. I have read that GSP can take a few days, up to a week or so to open up in a new location.

I just got a few great macro shots of the Scolymia and wanted to share. This is with the lights out (only moonlights are on) and with the help of a LED flashlight shining on the coral from the side of the tank.

I'm loving this coral and the macro lens.

I was sitting in front of the tank, browsing through some old pictures, and came acoss this image and looked up and was amazed at how fast the hippo tang is growing!

Here is the picture from almost 2 months ago (August 28):

And here is a similar pictured captured today:

Here are a couple more pics I got today. This is a tiny feather duster worm that showed up on the sand a couple of days ago.

If you look closely you can see the size by comparing to the grains of crushed coral

Flamefin front and center, with the rest of the crew (minus both jawfish) - the rabbitfish is hard to see - he's in the lower left under the slab:

And finally, speaking of the jawfish as I was taking these pictures one of the jawfish was keeping watch:

That feather duster is awesome! I paid like 30 bucks for one just like it.

Hey Chad

Hopefully you got one that's MUCH BIGGER than this one! It must be about 3/8 of an inch long. I have numerous others on the rocks, but this is the only one in the sand and the only one with the red color.

Here are a few of the ones I have on the liverock. They reproduce quite rapidly and I see more and more of them in my tank.

I don't think these will grow to the nice size of the bigger worms. They seem to stop at about an inch... unlike the awesome hitchhiker I got on my favia brain coral.

I eventually want to buy some more of them. Post some pictures of the one you got when you get a chance!

RUT RO RBTA!

RUT RO RBTA!

Well guys,

Not sure what to make of this... This morning before going to work I thought to myself "wow the anemone is looking great"....

Mr. Murphy was waiting for me when I got home... I found the RBTA looking like this:

anem1.jpg

anem1.jpg

I did a bunch of web searches and ended up in Marc Levenson's (Melev) page which detailed a saga that resulted in the death of the RBTA!?!?! (http://www.melevsreef.com/pics/0404/rbta.html)

It was eating pieces of scallop and mysis and looking great. I don't know what may have caused this.

By the time I'm finishing this post it has deflated completely, but its mouth is still open and 'swollen', while the tentacles are super thin and shriveled.

This sucks! Any ideas what's going on?

Good news on the RBTA... "Poop" Happens :)

This morning it was looking as good as ever. I was really worried, but it turns out, after doing some research on the web, that it was defecating.

I never thought about it but the anemone only has one 'opening' so I guess food goes in and comes out of the same place.

So anyone who doesn't have much experience with anemones (like me) and sees this, don't freak out. Its part of its natural behavior seen every few days. It deflates to replace the water in it and to dump excrement.

A very helpful site: http://www.karensroseanemones.com/

The page that was most relevant to me: http://www.karensroseanemones.com/deflating.htm

I'm pretty sure that's normal. Although the mouth looks a bit more "inside out" than I normally see.

Yeah - its already done it once more since my 'freak out' and fully recovered.

Here it is eating a piece of scallop... (I know... that piece is too big, I usually feed it smaller pieces.

itay your photography is becoming more impressive as time goes, and the corals are looking more colorful than ever!

Thank you Ryan! I'm finally starting to get the hang of this macro lens and of aquarium photography.

I could spend all day watching my tank, taking photos of the tank and post processing images... my wife just looks at me shakes her head and laughs :)

She gets it, but yet she laughs :)

Good Monday to All!

Not much to update at this time. Everything continues to do very well. My yellow and purple tang continue to be in quarantine before coming into the system and I can't wait to get them in!

Everything is growing nicely and I'm going to have my LFS guy come over, possibly this week, to help me dose magnesium an calcium, as the levels are low and I have never done it myself yet. Good coral growth is depleting it from the water

Didn't take too many photos this weekend, but here are 2 acropora shots. They aren't the best shots, but I was experimenting with removing the background to make the corals "pop" more.
