I have a 75 gallon tank that i am going to convert into a 180 gallon. I was wondering if i need to mix the water now and let it cycle because i am going to have to mix double what i have.? Or how do i do it so my tank does not go through a cycle again?
how much live rock is in the 75 gal--are you moving it over
Are you adding more live rock --curred or uncurred to the 180 gal--they are factors that will effect the cycling of the tank--not the change in water volumne
I have about 100 lbs of rock and i am moving to the 180 gallon. I am also going to get some base rock and let it culture in the sump of my 75 while i work on the 180 gallon.
There won't be much of a cyling with the 180 gal and the existing live rock.
However it could take up to three months for that base rock to be alive again
So even though you have a 180 gal tank you are not going to be able to handle much of a bioload more then your 75 gal can now until that base rock becomes supportable
