I bought 300 more lbs of LR i got it for less than $1 a lb. The reef gods were def shining down on me. there is room to put future coral now!
and re aquascaping this reef to be was a pain, but i like it now. I got rid of the humu trigger and grouper, and got a black durgeon trigger. now for some small fish!
The rock used to be all in the back, now it comes to the front glass in spots, with lots of caves and such. i think it looks more natural.
Tell me if you think it looks better please.

tell me if you think it was a good descision.

Based on my absolute lack of experience with reef tanks (other than those of friends) I'd say that your tank looks great with the added live rock. Like you said, it definitely looks more like a natural reef-for what my opinion is worth :)

thanks!
amount of LR is up to preference.
and a newb and a pro both know what is aesthetically pleasing

thanks so much, its tougher to get comps on reef central. :P

i need to get a better pic, the tank was still cloudy and now its clear. there are nice caves and overhangs. it is a lot of rock, way more than i see people add to a reef. But since most of my corals will be soft, i don't need much vertical room for growth i guess.

thanks again
Sam

I was thinking the before looked nice then...bam! Sweet aquascape job. Good looking liverock too. Love the coris - how long did he hide after adding all the new rock?

Looks great Juggler! Makes a world of difference. I went through a similar aquascape do-over about a year ago in my 180 pentagon and it helped with both flow as well as re-igniting my interest in maintenance. So many spots to add frags, so many opps to spend $$.

wow didnt see this thread got bumped!

thanks so much for the compliments!

i added a new fish. a black trigger last week. he instantly got ich of course and i treated the tank he seems much better but still a bit bruised i guess. all the others show no signs.
unfortunately my flame angel is MIA for two days now :( she may turn up though.

grouperhead, i traded back the panther grouper because i wanted to get small fish. and the coris hid for about 0 seconds lol. he was circling my hands while i was in the tank and the first to explore and claim the new territory.

i want to add 13 green chromis in a month or so, i think the coris and lunar are still small enough not to eat them, but im not sure, what do you think?

Juggler, I don't think the coris would bother the chromis. Mine is 4.5" or so, and it came from a guy who had it in a full blown reef with shrimp, etc. He brought it back though because he went bb...mine doesn't bother hermits, snails, or a blue damsel in the tank. Should be ok.

I'd be a lot more worried about the lunare turning on the chromis when he gets bigger, but the schooling of the chromis and he being small should help that out. How big is the lunare?

be prepared to lose some chromis'....and not from other fish...

Twice now i have tried with 15 chromis schools, and each time they will each other down to about 7...

They are cool one minute, the next out for eachothers blood.

the lunar is a bit shorter than the coris, but much beefier.

i know not many have luck with the chromis. it always goes from ~ number to two. i just don't understand why. maybe they wont want to kill each other if other fish keep them in line. either way, i will try.

and i added some hermits and snails that i got for free, the lunare was happy to chow down, the coris flipped a few, but quickly lost interest.
