I recently purchased a used 180 Gallon tank and now the excitement is starting to set in. I am looking forward to having more real estate for for fish and corals but think I will need a new skimmer. On my current 90 I am running the Aqua C - EV180 which is fine but has its issues from time to time. The new tank will predominantly be filled with SPS and maybe a few zoas.

For those running 180 gallon tanks what skimmers are you using and how many fish do you have in your tank?

Anyone have two jaw fish in there tank?

I have a 180 Gallon with a 70 Gallon Sump. I would say my tank is on the heavier fishload. I run a MSX 300 skimmer and love it.

Heavy fish load and heavy coral load. I run an ATB 10.5 deluxe and I used to run a H&S a200-1260; they both work in my opinion, but I really like my ATB.

I have a 220 which is only 6 in taller. I run a pm bullet 2 and have it overstocked with 6 large fish and about 10 small fish. I had a 180 and ran the same skimmer. This is an easy to maintain system. If you keep good filteration and run a good skimmer you will be fine. I have tried many skimmers pm still leads the way in my openion.

I run the vertex in-280 with my 220,just the right size and good price for the skimmer when you are on a budget and good performance.

Our 180 has a 110 gal sump system. Very heavy fish population of large tangs. We use a custom GEO beckett skimmer and could not be happier.

I have a 180 with a 50 gallon sump and run a Reef Octopus Extreme 250

+1

I am in the process of breaking my 180 down for an upgrade, but when it was at its peak I had 5 big fish and 12 small ones. The extreme 250 worked really well, and I got some great sps colors. I did 10% water changes every other week too, so it wasn't only the skimmer removing waste.

I am about to start a new 180g with about a 40g sump and after much research I picked an ATB 1050. Never thought I would EVER spend that $$$ on a skimmer. But I think I will be happy. It came in today and all I could do was stare at the beast!!! Man is this thing large.

My 180 had a 125 sump, with a Deltec AP851:

it's nog-a-rific!

I also just bought a 180 as well. I am planning on using a ASM G3 for now then probably upgrade when I start to get heavy in the fish load..

I run an ASM G3 on my 180 Display. Including sump its about 200 gal of water volume. I have 15 fish and lots of SPS coral. Ive always had good results with that skimmer.
