1800 Gallon Reef .... Houston, Tx

It wasn't really a slash. It was a stab wound. It actually caused my knuckle to be stiff and swollen for three weeks. He did it with an assassins precision. I don't think I've ever jerked my hand out of a tank as fast as I did that day.

dood- you know how long I've waited to hear a report like this? There is literature out there that suggests a wound from Acanthurus sohal might cause what you're describing but I've never actually heard anybody actually report it. Did you go to the hospital or see a doctor?

No doctors.. Just ran hot water over it and worked a few more hours. When I got home I cleaned it with hydrogen peroxide and put Neosporin on it. It bled for around an hour. Normally all the doctors do is give you an antibiotic and send you on your way.

great stuff.... it looks like the skimmer is before the filter socks? i do the same thing with my set-ups, is that the case here?

It will be dumping before the filter socks yes. The feed water from the skimmer will be from the same side as the return.

The two TU Ballvalves in the bottom left of the last pic are dedicated to the carbon and phosphate media reactors shown.

Here is the culprit!

I can not wait to see a video walk through. I want to see that skimmer more than anything right now.

That is coming along nicely so far.

Here is a picof the skimmer up and running.

Where are thise two reactors going to go? Having them sitting up on that sump bothers the OCD in me. I can just see them scratching that pretty sump or worse falling off and breaking..... I swear I am not a freak I just have really bad luck and something like that would definitely happen to me. :)

Im in the process of building a platform for the directly in front of the skimmer. They are back on the ground next to the sump.

Aqua Dave,

Question for the circuits in the walls of the fish room, they are standard outlets and not GFI?

Here in Cali you need GFI with 3 feet of wet areas. Some people use GFI Circuit breakers, instead of the outlet. But I prefer the outlets so if they trip only a couple of items shut off, rather than an entire circuit.

What was your thinking on using the standard outlets ?

Same rules here in AZ. Most likely he has them as dedicated outlets with GFI Circuit Breakers. That is how I did mine, since I ran separate 20 AMP circuits just for my system.

There are four different 20 amp circuits with GFI breakers. The power panel is located just outside of the filter room and is labeled for each circuit. I have yet to set up the Apex controller so I will be running different power bars for each circuit.

Awesome to know this tank is local. My son is amazed. He thinks his 220 is paradise so he would flip out. I was tagged by our sohal this morning. He is only 8 inches though. If you feel like coming out to katy and seeing our little reef you are welcome to it. I doubt it will blow your mind but it has done wonders for my special needs son.
