1800 Gallon Reef .... Houston, Tx

I believe Peter from Canada originally went with profilux controller in his 1350 gallon setup. He has since switch to Apex controllers

They (Peter, Mr.Wilson & crew) found the Profilux to be almost completely devoid of user-usable instructions, the support to be obtuse and practically non-existent, and the constant hassle to try to make changes or get anything done in general too onerous to be bothered with. Apex was pretty much a shoe-in after all the trouble Profilux offered. (You do NOT want to get Peter started talking/ranting about Profilux!)

He has been asking for a reef tank since he was 3. I always knew he was different and when he was finally diagnosed with Autism, we have struggled for years to find something that would help us find a way to engage with him. He loved trains but wanted them in his room so he could play alone. This past Christmas I decided it was worth a shot and bought an established 60 gallon system. The difference in my child is night and day. He has learned things I cannot teach like empathy. We recently upgraded to the 220 and he is really coming out of his shell. Our local club has accepted him and I think that has made him realize his possibilities are endless. He talks to complete strangers about his tank and as you can see shares freely on his Facebook page. I think he finally feels like he belongs somewhere. He can't wait to grow up and open his own fish store, growing up was a scary concept before this.

Not to hijack this thread, but this brought tears to my eyes. I have "liked" kyles reef. Which gave me a thought....do you think putting a thread out in rc for everyone to "like" Kyle's fb page would be advisable? I bet you'd get 1000's of likes....

I have not met Peter but Dave M has. If you read his ENTIRE thread and it is LONG you get to know, understand and respect Peter. Here is a clip from Post #627 on

"One of the big issues we ran into was how to control all this new equipment. I was not happy at all with my Profilux experience so I decided to experiment with using the APEX brand. We are going to do an in-depth review on the thread with pictures but I do have to say that so far our experience has been considerably more positive than the Profilux. If the new build with the Apex continues to go well I will probably convert my entire Profilux environment to Apex. Stay tuned for the detailed review with pictures!! "

For Peter these are strong words, so I would talk to either him or Mr. Wilson before choosing.

Thank you for your support. I will put together a post today so Dave can go back to discussing this amazing build. You were the 110th like and he was over the moon this morning. :)

Can someone PM me the facebook page so I can add it as a friend too.

I am worm5406 on there too.

Maybe things have changed but I have found the basic programming to be easy and I am not very computer literate. It even has auto water change programming built right in, which i use to do automatic daily water changes. Just had to buy an extra level sensor for my sump. The ghl forum has been pretty helpful when needed and north american distributorship is growing. We now have 3 dealers right here in houston. And their equipment is built to last the long haul.

This tank definitely deserves a full profilux setup.
