That's a tuna?

edit: wow I am way behind, sorry!

This thread is probably the most happening thread in Large Reef Tanks :)

But here's an interesting tidbit...
The Bluefin tuna is the if not one of the most expensive fish in the world because of how much Japanese people are willing to pay for the meat. Some of the larger animals fetch $100,000 haha.

Catch a tuna, and you can make your dream tank :)

Yeah, some buyer in Tokyo paid something like $140K for a medium sized blueifn. There was nothing special about the fish. He just wanted everyone to know that he was the man to see first.

My buddy sold his for a decent chunk of change. But he doesn't fish for them for the money. It's more a prestige thing for him. Actually, he's got to be a multi-millionaire, completely self-made. I saw pics of his last home, a 12,000 sq. ft. mansion just outside Boston. Nice to have money...

Here's a kicker. Not til later did I find out that I would've gotten a third of the money had I been on the boat too. :eek2: I didn't know though, we never talked about it. I always assumed that the money was his as it's his boat, fuel, etc.

 A few days ago I told him about my waiting for word on a few specifics before ordering this 238. He thought I was being foolish, with two kids'n all and college educations to worry about. Maybe he's right? Uh oh, doubt is starting to set-in. :eek1:

Right. You want the fish in as quickly as possible. Otherwise the fish cramps up due to lactic acid build-up, hence the meat is ruined. Well, I shouldn't say ruined. But you won't get top dollar. The stuff that ships to Japan must be amzing tasting. The stuff we eat here is what the Japanese overseas turn their noses up at.

And yeah, don't go selling undersized bft or sell them without a commercial license. I believe the fine is $10K per illegally sold fish.

Ku-day. Uhhh. Mayybe it was $114K? Either way, it was a ridiculous amount of money. I think it sold about seven years ago.

Yeah Bart, so don't go sellin' none of those tuna. ;)

A commercial boat, about two years ago, was caught with an a$$ load of tuna off the NJ coast. The fish all had been dressed, with their heads and tails removed. There were many small fish in the mix too. When asked what type of tuna they were, the boat answered yellowfin. But the EPOs, I believe, didn't buy it. So they had all the short fish thoroughly inspected and fount that they were nearly all small bluefin tuna. Well, these short tuna are a big no-no for them to sell. I hear they were put out of business by the total amount of fines and the meat was donated to homeless shelters. That's the story as I was told anyway.

Damn T, some serious T-bone-age going on here.

Since Tbone cant even get his new skimmer hooked we have every right To Tbone this thread.

so the SL63 is the safety car for Formula 1 this season, looks good.

when you put it that way, it becomes clear to me the ATB is the clear winner,

Sheesh, gone for a few hours, and LOOK at what happens!! Looking at that picture, I don't think "Large" is the appropriate description for "ATB"
