Yeah, the ATB does use a riser tube as well. It's around 4" tall from the bottom of the bubble plate.

Very Nice! Same (brand) pump the octo 250 pro uses. Lets see this thing doing its job...

It's not the same brand. It's the same motorblock series manufactured by Hagen. BK and ATB also use these for their RD and AirStar pumps.
However, the volutes and impellers are different.

The Octo pro uses a smaller block than the regular sized BKs and ATBs.
Of course it is a very good value for what it is.

Ahh, I see what the other guys were trying to say regarding the extension tube. They were saying that because of the tube, the entire body is not utilized. That may be true to a point, but on the ATB, the bubbles go in the tube, come out, and go back down a bit (lower than the tube) and rise up the neck. In an H&S skimmer, the bubbles are only located at the top half of the skimmer body. The lower half is all water, no bubbles at all. H&S does this to prevent microbubbles from going back into the tank.

It seems the riser tube helps guide the bubbles up into the neck? I also read that the tube is designed to minimize contact between the dirtier water entering the skimmer and the water exiting the skimmer. Some BM250 users say this riser causes too much turbulence. I hope this is not the same in the SM.

Well, this extra riser was unexpected. I sure hope it works out for me

Regarding the H&S, my ER is the same. I only had bubbles from the point of water entry and up. Everything below was water. The BK will have bubbles from the bottom up :)

Yes Maximus
But i don't think the ATB riser is that high. We still fill from the bubble plate up with bubbles. When will you be in my area again? I got a loaner skimmer for you to try

congrats on getting the skimmer as i couldn't not sign for it. tbone are you done installing it yet? you only need vinegar baths for knock off and copy cat brands :D. my friend BK200 took about 5 days to really see thick skimmate. so now tbone will not be on the forum that much b/c of the second job needed to pay for the upgrade.

What kind of skimmer? I will be there on Sat at Aquatic Gallery.

Its an ATB of course. A small I just want you to be able to experiment with the size i recommended. See you Sat.

Unfortunately, I have a poker game tomorrow evening. I will be at AG at 1pm on Sat. That sounds great Victor. I am very curious to see what an ATB small will do on my tank. Thanks dude!

I'll bring the skimmer just in case. This is the same skimmer I have been using to post the crazy pics of foam!!!

lol, tell me about it!

did you have time to make the switch? We will see how the extension is working out once you put it on. I guess its for more concentrated bubbles and less bubbles on the way back to the sump like Maximus told ya.

Making me wonder "what if" i would have a BK skimmer instead of my H&Ss! ;)

Richard, the extension is glued. I wish it were removable. Then I could see which I like more.

No, haven't pulled out my sump yet. Watched the Warriors game tonight. Not sure when I'll get to pulling out my sump, as I will need to redo some plumbing while I"m at it. And I'm working this weekend :(

He's just mad that I got an Achilles tang today and he didn't:lol:

Yeah, tell me about it. Add that to the fact that my Warriors gave away the game tonight, and I"m not a happy camper :(

Haha, funny cuz that actually crossed my mind if I don't like the riser tube. Or I'll have Proline send me the old SM250. I'm wondering if they added the riser tube cuz feedback from current SM250 owners wasn't that great.

LOL, you want this thread to split again before the night's up? :D haven't seen the new G55, but it's not boxy anymore right? Did you know I saw Keyshawn Johnson at the Dublin Safeway a few years back?? He rolled up in a silver G55 with Florida plates. I saw Keith Smart last month in the same Safeway. Don't know what car he drives though :D
