OK, Daylight hours mean this thread gets back on track :)

Flow Updates:

So you guys know I recently picked up a Tunze 6060. I also picked up a used 6080, which should be arriving soon.

After work today, I'm going to pick up a 6101, 6045, and 6025

I'm not sure yet which ones I'll end up running. I'll have to play around with them all.

Might as well get the 6301 like I said and make your tank a Tunze showcase. Perhaps they'll sponsor you haha.

the 6045 is a waste of money the 6025 stock pumps 840gph the 6045 only around 960gph

With the simple dremel mod both are capable of the same max GPH. They are the same pump.

Dan - trust me, I thought of that, but my little fish will get sucked in and chopped into fresh seafood! I doubt Tunze would sponsor me, as 8 years of Euroreef got me no where! I had to pay for that upgraded Eheim pump! :D I wish reefing were like cars, where we could get our whole setup sponsored...hmmm, let me make some calls :)

Nick - the 6025 won't be used for flow in the *main*display. It's going behind the rock island on the right side of my tank. If you look back at my pictures, I only have 12" of space between the side of the overflow and side of my tank. I just want to move the water better around the sandbed. The 6045 or modded 6025 would blow everything aroun.

I could have bought 2 6025s - very true, but feeling lazy and busy with other stuff, so I took the lazy route and bought the 6045 ;)

I thought the 6025 pushed 660gph and 6045 1189gph?

Haha yeah that wouldn't be good of course.
My hawkfish sits on top of my 6200. There's crazy suction there, but it doesn't seem to bother him. A little damsel hangs out by a 6100 too. He could easily fit inside the slits, so I think he's not right in the head.

I asked Roger about the 6301, and he told me about it sucking in fish since the slots on the shroud are wider I guess. My lawnmower blenny used to try and eat algae from the front of the 6201, and get blown halfway across the tank. He would come right back though! quite amusing. He wasted away though. no more algae and he wouldn't take prepared foods. RIP

Updated ER RS250 Nog shots

Updated ER RS250 Nog shots

I snapped a pic of my Euroreef last night. This pic shows it running wetter than my previous pics. I''ve been running wetter ever since I had my cyano outbreak.

I was thinking about the height of the ER RS250 (30") and the short height of my new BK (22"). If I account for the fact that the bottom of the Euroreef doesn't have any bubbles, and the fact that bubbles on BK's start from the very bottom, reaction height is not that much off. Also, with BK's wider body, that should increase contact time a bit more. Is my logic correct on this guys?

Don't feel bad Nick, I am still filling out the test and so far I answered Lee Mar and H&S :)

Well you and GSM guy can take make-up tests. Unfortunately they're very expensive. Elos and ATB? Lee Mar and H&S? I'd say stick with what you've got. They're at least passing grades. ;) Me, I'm cheating off of Terry's answers.

Damn, didn't realize there were so many Koreans in the house. Though I'm only half. Does that count? P-p-p-please say it does. :(

Terry, are you really thinking about doing 6301? IMO, you have plenty with the 6201. I just place my order with Kevin for 4 6301, i kinda nernous about smaller fish may got suck into the pump but all my 6201 has wider shroud and i did not have any incident.

Actually too fly its Envision and Deltec that are the correct answers i just looked it up.

Hmmm. See this is the problem with not knowing anything. Who do I cheat off of? :eek1:

Of course!

Terry, yes, I think that the volume of the reactor chamber is probably the same or more in the BK than the ER. The ER seems to have a comparatively long neck. And like you mentioned, the fact that the bubbles don't start at the bottom for the ER makes a difference too.
Is the BK's diameter 10" approximately?

Terry, the ER has longer contact time for sure due to the turnover rate between the two pumps and the heigh between the two protein skimmer even tho the BK has wider body but the water intake should be much higher.

You should run your BK dry for the first couple weeks till it completely break in. You don't want to come home to an overflow protein skimmer. My BK took a week to break in then i have to lower the water level or else.....

Steve - I'm not considering the 6301's anymore. When I was setting up my tank, I wante (2) 6301's until Roger told me it could suck in small fish. At that time, I wanted to stock only small fish and no tangs (since I had all big fish in my last tank)...Well, I just can't stay away from Tangs :) So I went with the (2) 6201's. I think with the supplemental flow that's coming my way, I should be fine even when my coral grow up.

Dan - Yes, the diameter is 250mm = 9.8425196" :D --> That measurement's for Paul :lol:

JarHead... 4 x 6301 is just crazy. Just don't be sad if they make a 6401!

I should be happy with 32k turnover

why not just buy a nice 40 horsepower 4 stoke outboard engine and mount it on the tank talk about Flowalicios

I understand the difference between the 2 pumps. The Eheim on my ER is much smaller, so flow through the skimmer body is slower, thus leading to a longer contact time.

Regarding the height difference:

ER injects water into the skimmer about 4" from the bottom?
BK injects from almost the bottom?

So if you think about it, the effective height on the ER is not 30". It's more like 26". Is that logic correct?

I was going to do 6x6201 but can you imagine the amount of wire running along the tank. My tank is going to be peninsula with open top, i try not to have much wire running on the far end therefore, 4 6301 should be good.
