So I was in petco tonight picking up another timer and powerhead for flow. for sh?t and giggles I checked out there saltwater fish section. They had some banggai cardinals, a six line wrasse lots of clarkiis and nemos(osc clowns). yellow tangs, damels and anemones. talking to the young lady working the fish store she told me that they have issues keeping yellow tangs alive. i had my reasons why i thought they had issues. so i did a no no in some peoples eyes, i bought the six line and a banggai cardinal. wanting to see what petco keeps the salt levels at in there tank i was blown away by the results... 1.030!!! are you kidding me. that is why you cant keep fish alive among other things. i am going back tomorrow to tell them they need to lower there salt level, not that it will help. i am dripping the new fish to bring them down slowly also will fresh water dip. i FEEL BETTER KNOWING I CAN SAVE 2 FISH, HOPE OTHERS CAN TOO.

Offhand I'd guess they're a victim of unmonitored salinity creep. I think that phenomenon is responsible for many "unexplained" tank crashes, particularly when the owner is not paying attention or choses to avoid "all that testing hassle".

I hope your new acquisitions do well in their happier less salty environment. You are kind to inform Petco of (at least one of) their problem(s).

Sweet. Had both fish. Hopefully you can add another bangaii for a mated pair.

My LFS is the opposite with salinity. I was surprised it was purposely in the 115s.
