1st time LiveAquaria order, kinda sad...

I refuse to buy livestock online,....I usually like to observe the fish at the local fish store for a few months if possible before buying. Personally I just have to see the animals before I buy it, with my own eyes.

Guess you don't like anything out of the ordinary? Kinda doubt your LFS will hold onto a 300$ angel for a few months for you. If so that angel suddenly costs 4-500$ now

Yes...I watched a leopard wrasse for 2 months before I bought him, did not quarantine and he is doing great after a year.
it's a really great store

Im sure its a good store, but that experience is not the norm. I am assuming you live in a more rural area or less populated area. I say that because i live in the DC area, I have about 4 LFS that i frequent as well as working part time at one and fish never last months. That goes for the most common fish as well as the rare ones. Point being most cant watch a fish for months and usually 2-3 trips over the course of a week or 2 is all that is needed.

We have an LFS here that does a 4 week quarantine and proactive treatment of every fish they get, It is online order only though, no brick and morter location. I think the guy does it out of his home. But he will ship anywhere. You pay a little more but nothing crazy, well worth it for the peace of mind

Heck all the lfs's around me never have the same fish for over a week.

Most of the 'bigger/better' LFSs in my area, all post their shipments before they arrive, and people are waiting at the store for the employees to open the styros... The store is usually 'fishless' by the time they close each night!

I feel the same way.I have not had great success with the few fish I have purchased online.I only buy cleanup crews and corals online. My local fish store doesn't have a great selection of corals, and cleanup crews are cheaper online. With that said,I just received a clam purchased from Divers Den on Thursday. It came packaged in a huge box, sealed in about 6 layers of plastic, and was exactly as pictured on their website.

Ordering online can be a gamble. Yes, I agree I like to see my fish in person to see if it is eating and how it looks, but when you have a couple LFS that has ich in every single tank, I am more than likely taken my chances purchasing online.

Divers den and la livestock ship from seperate facilities

Live aquaria imo has gone way downhill since being bought by petco I will never order from them again

My first order, which was 3 months ago, from LA was very disappointing. Especially the fish from DD. I wanted to buy locally, but after seeing ich in one of my LFS tanks, and the other LFS prices are too high, I decided to give them another chance.

I took advantage from the sale on labor day. I ordered fish, corals, shrimps, crabs, and snails. One crab arrived dead and a shrimp died few days later, but the fish, corals, other shrimps, and snails all are in good health. I am very satisfied with my recent orders.

Sorry but Miami sucks. Find me a local store with helpful, friendly, knowledgable staff, good husbandry practices and healthy and varied livestock and I'll treat you to dinner. My LFS back in Oklahoma ran circles around the vendors here. I guess it wouldn't be as bad if I were stocking my tank full of "those fish from Finding Nemo," or a bunch of yellow tangs...Although I've heard very good things about some S. Florida stores 2-3hours North of me, but I haven't gotten up there.

Then again maybe it's just me and my unrealistic expectations

I've had a lot of luck with LA. If you let them know your fish / coral arrived in rough shape, they usually make it right. I don't have a lot of options on the LFS front in Kansas City, so the Internet is my only real way of getting a nice variety of livestock.

theres an awesome saltwater shop in downtown Wichita if you can justify the trip

Be aware that LA ships fish at 1.017 sg and your QT should match that. DD ships at 1.025. Even a slow drip acclimation because of amonia in the shipping bag is dangerous.

I think most of us are a little spoiled if we are honest with ourselves. The fact that we live in an age where you can get live, indo-pacific marine species of whatever in the mail is pretty freaking incredible. Yes, I know the feeling of frustration when you don't get exactly what you ordered, but sometimes I think we lose perspective of the bigger picture, know what I mean? DD is going to refund your money and replace your losses, right? So all problems aside, what a time to be alive!

I can't imagine how all of you older folks got along in the 80s where you couldn't even get fish in the mail ;)

Try feeding live brine shrimp, there hasn't been a fish that I have brought back from the brink, that wouldn't eat live brine, that is your best shot. Good luck.

Absolutely. Started hatching process yesterday. Hope to have bumper crop by tomorrow.

First day today with Copperband, it was pecking at rocks so I'm hoping the pods will keep his body and soul together until I get him onto live brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and/or blackworms. My other fish in both tanks LOVE the blackworms.
