(2) 6000's in 150g?

I am considering ditching my (6) Maxi Jet 600's and using (2) 6000's with the controller... for my 150 gallon tank.

Will this be too much flow for the sand bed? How far can the 6000's flow be reduced with the controller (TS21)?

This is a lot of money to invest, and just want to get it right!!!:mixed:

I have 2 6000's and 7095 controller in a 90 gal and don't have too much trouble with them blowing sand. You just have to aim them properly and adjust the power so that doesn't happen. I positioned mine on the back and I bounce the flow offf the front glass and pulse the flow between 40 - 80%. I really like them by the way.

i'd go with 2 6100s in a 150. I had two 6000s before in my 120 and didn't think it was enough.

Thanks for the advise!! I'll go with the 6100's (TS24) ... the cost goes up... to $884 (ouch), but it is a lot cheaper than buying 6000's and then upgrading to 6100's later.

I'm sure Roger will correct me if I'm wrong, but as I recall, the difference between the 6000 and the 6100's is just the transformer -- and you can buy the transformer for the price difference between a 6000 and a 6100. So you can always buy the 6000's, and if you decide you want more flow, it costs the same as having bought the 6100's to begin with.

As DaveE said- start with the 6000's because unless you are mainly doing SPS that may be all you need.

Roger, just confirming.... If I order the 6000's, I can upgrade to the 6100's by adding a transformer later ... if needed???

oh yeh, sorry about that, forgot to ask if you were going SPS dominated. If not, 2x6000 will be more than enough. And upgrading transformers is easy enough, it'll cost the exact same.

Roger, the 6000's are awesome. The entire tank looks so much better, zoo's are fully open, water is clearer, and reox went from 250 to 340 overnight. Flower pot has never looked better, and fish are swimming, swimming, swimming. Thanks for all your help!!!!
